Job description

Ziegler Energy Solutions has an opening for a Senior Electrical Power Engineer to lead technical design and system integration across distributed generation and energy infrastructure projects. This position requires deep technical competence in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Solar PV, and high-capacity EV charging systems, with an emphasis on practical, field-ready engineering deliverables. This position will serve as the subject matter expert throughout the project lifecycle, supporting sales during early scoping, project managers during execution, and collaborating with electrical contractors during construction and commissioning.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop complete electrical design packages, including single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, load summaries, and integration details for BESS, Solar PV, and EV charging infrastructure
  • Lead technical design of DC Fast Charging (DCFC) sites, including load calculations, transformer and switchgear sizing, site power distribution, and thermal/ventilation considerations
  • Provide technical validation to Sales Engineers on equipment selection, system configuration, and feasibility during pre-construction
  • Support Project Managers and field teams with engineering clarification, RFIs, and real-time design adjustments during installation
  • Conduct or facilitate protection and control studies, ensuring proper device coordination and distribution system reliability
  • Integrate BESS, Solar PV, and EV charging systems into microgrid or hybrid architectures, including inverter-based resource (IBR) configuration and functional sequencing
  • Perform or facilitate engineering studies such as short circuit, arc flash, load flow, grounding, and harmonics
  • Ensure design compliance with NEC, NESC, and IEEE standards and prepare technical inputs for utility interconnection applications
  • Mentor junior engineering staff, lead peer reviews, and uphold engineering quality standards across all deliverables

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited institution required
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in LV/MV power distribution, protective relaying, and distributed energy resource integration
  • 4+ years of experience in power and energy systems
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Proficiency with ETAP, AutoCAD, and/or Revit
  • Strong communication ability to translate complex engineering topics for non-technical stakeholders and field personnel
  • Prior experience managing utility-scale interconnection processes and requirements preferred
  • Knowledge of EV charging standards, load-management strategies, and demand-response programs preferred
  • Strong focus on safety-by-design and system reliability principles
  • Prior experience with HOMER, Energy Toolbase, Helioscope preferred
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical and energy storage standards, including NFPA (70 (NEC), 70E, 855), UL (9540(A), 1741, 891, 1558, 2202(EV Charging)), and IEEE/ANSI (1547 (Interconnection), C37 (Relaying), C57 (Transformers))
  • Must have and maintain a clean driving record

The pay range for this position is
$109,700.00 to $164,500.00
Starting wage is dependent on skills, experience, education and location. Pay range may vary by 10% depending upon the applicant's location. Along with competitive pay, full time positions are benefits eligible which includes:
