Responsibilities & Requirements

The Manager, Medical Education is responsible for supporting the Director of Medical Education (DME) and Administrative Director of Medical Education (ADME) in the overall functions of the day-to-day activities within Graduate Medical Education (GME).  This position will also act as a liaison between the office employees, hospital leadership, and external stakeholders.  The Manager will professionally and effectively interact with the Program Directors (PDs), program faculty, residents, and medical students.  The Manager will assist the DME and ADME in monitoring accreditation oversight to ensure that the residency programs are being conducted in accordance with the regulatory and accreditation requirements.  The Manager will support the DME and ADME in maintaining institutional standards with the Clinical Learning Environment Review Process and in the formulation of the Annual Intuitional Review process. 

The Manager will provide mentoring, development, supervision, evaluation, and disciplinary functions of the GME office employees.  The Manager will assist the DME and ADME with developing and managing operating and capital budgets.   The Manager will plan and allocate resources to effectively staff and accomplish tasks to meet departmental productivity.

The Manager assumes responsibility for adherence to the organization and departmental policies and procedures. The Manager will perform other duties as assigned by the DME and ADME.  The Manager reports directly to the Administrative Director, Medical Education for Kettering Health Dayton.

Key Job Responsibilities Supervises staff and ensures efficient daily operations of the Graduate Medical Education office Alerting Director of Medical Education and Administrative Director of Medical Education to any problems that require executive review Ensures compliance with the requirement of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and American Osteopathic Association (AOA), until full transition is complete Supports the medical education department with all elements of New Innovations (NI), including standards for data input and organization, creation and distribution of evaluations, creation of custom reports, and troubleshooting all modules. Provides quality control for the program coordinator data entry into the Accreditation Data system (ADS) Actively involved in planning, evaluating, and implementing strategies for graduate medical education Assists ADME in developing and monitoring financial performance against budgeted costs on departmental performance Manages employee selection, evaluation, disciplinary action and termination. Recommends sufficient and competent staff to provide appropriate support to customers. Creates and revises job descriptions as appropriate. Establishes and implements staff training. Coordinates resources and workload for departmental needs and goals Assists DME and ADME internal program reviews and annual program evaluations, other reviews as needed, in order to recommend changes to improve quality, effectiveness, and/or productivity of the residency programs Stays current with policies and trends in Graduate Medical Education and serves as a consultant on issues related to GME and accreditation Improves professional growth to maintain efficiency and effectiveness of GME by belonging to professional organization(s) and/or attending annual conferences and other local seminars involving GME activities. Subscribes to and reviews publications. Serves as a resource to current staff, residents, and medical students to answer questions and resolve issues when they occur Serves as an advocate for the Graduate Medical Education program for Kettering Health Network and in the community Provides leadership example by demonstrating exceptional standards in issues such as teamwork, interpersonal relationship development, reliability, attendance, professional appearance. Conducts staff meetings as required. Perform/support audits as necessary Manages new resident recruitment, matching, orientation, contracting, and hiring processes for the residency programs Oversee the maintenance and compliance of affiliation agreements, program letter of agreement, and any contracts as required Ensure mandatory education/ and or clinical competencies completed on time Attends Graduate Medical Education Committee meetings as required Handles all issues and records in Medical Education in a confidential manner Completes work assignments in a timely manner Prepares necessary reports as requested Job Requirements Minimum Education Master's degree preferred. Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 10 years' experience within Graduate Medical Education required. Excellent communication and writing skillsMinimum Work Experience Prior experience working with ACGME (graduate medical education) accreditation standards at the institutional level is preferred Required Skills Must have proven leadership and team-building skills. Must have the ability to function well in a deadline-driven environment. Must serve as collaborative team leader, independent problem solver, and decision maker Must have a strong background in regulatory compliance.
