Job Description

WHAT DOES A SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER DO?

Are you comfortable explaining the role of social media within an integrated marketing mix? Does brainstorming about social media solutions in a highly regulated industry intrigue you? Do you explore every inch of a new social media platform for fun? If so, you could be our next Manager, Social Media.

The Manager, Social Media will lead development and tactical initiatives, serving as social media counsel to account staff and external clients in collaboration with the social team lead. Internally, this person manages the workload of self and junior staff across numerous projects while playing the lead on more complex initiatives. This person also conducts social listening and influencer research,  and derives insights from the data with the assistance of junior staff, then presents the final product to the social team lead, account teams and clients. Likewise, this person displays an understanding of the broader digital ecosystem that social media tactics perform within, shown by cross-collaboration with other subject matter experts and possible social media education of peers. Externally, this person is expected to serve as the primary subject matter expert and project owner, collaborating with clients to help them stay aware of social media trends and technology while supporting their marketing objectives within the pharma industry. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as social media counsel to account staff and clients in collaboration with the social team lead. 
  • Manage workload across multiple projects for self and junior staff, taking the lead on complex initiatives. 
  • Conduct social listening and influencer research, derive insights from data, and present findings to internal teams and clients. 
  • Display a deep understanding of the broader digital ecosystem and cross-collaborate with other subject matter experts. 
  • Educate peers and clients on social media best practices, trends, and technologies. 
  • Act as the primary subject matter expert and project owner for social media, helping clients achieve marketing objectives within the pharmaceutical industry. 
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias.   
  • All other duties as assigned  
Qualifications

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

The requirements listed below are representative of the experience, education, knowledge, skill and/or abilities required.  

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent education plus professional experience) required  
  • Approximately 4-7 years of related agency or business experience  
  • Hands on: High familiarity with and personal use of social media, third-party management tools and social listening platforms. Ability to locate and manage influencers, derive insights and actionable next steps from social listening data and social platform performance. Understand the role paid social plays in an owned social strategy  
  • Team player: Strong multi-tasking, problem solving skills and ability to work in a team environment with the occasional delegation to junior staff  
  • Growth driver: Strong client relationship skills and a knack for maximizing organic growth opportunities within current workload  
  • Excellent communication skills: Write about, explain and present social media tactics and concepts in a highly regulated environment  
  • Strong finish: Proven ability to manage projects independently and collaboratively to successful completion. Understands and leads social media performance analytics  
  • Bonus round: Pharmaceutical/healthcare experience and experience with coordinating influencer programs are both a plus  
  • Periodic travel required
