Do you have experience building industrial panels or know someone who does? APT is looking to add to our growing team. The focus of this position would be panel building but the growth potential does not stop there! Panel building is just one of the many skills our Machine Building Technicians perform. The right candidate would have many opportunities to grow and learn.
Position Title: Machine Building Technician

Position Purpose
The Machine Building Technician responsibility is to build complete pieces of equipment with involvement in every aspect. That includes mechanical assembly, wiring electrical panels, and performing field wiring. It also entails downloading PLC, HMI, and robot programs from Controls Engineering to continue with setup, debug, and validation of the equipment. Some corrections and touchups are necessary during the debug phase, so familiarity of the above-mentioned programs is necessary. The Machine Building Technician serves as an extension of engineering, aiding in mechanical, electrical, and programming debug efforts on an as needed basis. The technician also assists in supporting basic plant needs, such as running drops, repairing machines, and programming updates. The Machine Building Technician occasionally travels to customer sites for installation and commissioning, as well as providing field service needs as necessary.
Job Functions and Responsibilities
• Basic understanding in use of hand tools.
• Ability to read calipers, mics, tape measure, and other measuring tools.
• Ability to read, understand, and build to assembly prints.
• Competent in basic mill and lathe use.
• Basic fabrication
• Ability to redline prints
• Competent in basic mechanical assembly skills.
• Ability to run and plumb air lines cleanly, efficiently, and to print.
• Understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to travel and complete field installations.
• Competent in basic electrical work.
• Ability to read, understand, and build projects to electrical prints.
• Ability to comprehend the intent of electrical build standard and codes (APT Standard, UL Codes,
NFPA79, EN60204)
• Able to wire control panels, field wire machines and cells on own, following print.
• Able to troubleshoot electrical issues.
• Understanding in use of controls software (example: RS Logix, View Designer, Control Flash+, RS
Linx, etc.)
• Understanding of CNC machine tool (initial set-up, G-Code, Robot Integration, Multiple Brands
(Haas/Robodrill)
• Understanding of ladder logic, sequence programming and ethernet communications
• Understanding of robot base programming (Handling Tool, Advanced TPP, DCS)
Education and Experience
• High school diploma or GED for apprenticeship or 2+ years mechanical assembly experience, electrical panel building, or controls troubleshooting experience
