Job description

Solutions Engineer - FTL/LTL Brokerage


Purpose/Job Function:

The Solution Engineer will play a key role in developing and implementing supply chain solutions for our current and prospective customers. The Solution Engineer will be responsible for providing valuable insight into network design and shipment and route optimization for our customers. The Solution Engineer will design and build models to solve complex optimization problems. The position will also provide analytical support carrier sourcing activities.


Essential Functions:

  • Able to lead all aspects of supply chain and transportation solutions for clients including demonstrations, implementation, hands-on execution of configuration, testing and deployment support.
  • Subject matter expert (SME) for supply chain optimization.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to support business requirement definition, process design, and implementation of processes. Document and maintain functional requirements
  • Research and analyze best transportation practices for existing and future clients.
  • Develop an understanding of customer processes to enhance cross-functional initiatives and effectively communicate/integrate solution improvements.
  • Develop and identify cost savings initiatives and manage projects through implementation.
  • Develop and quantify value propositions by identifying opportunities through rigorous data collection and analysis.
  • Communicate and collaborate project activities to key stakeholders both internally and with clients
  • Research root cause of issues, recommend improvements in existing processes and implement action plans
  • Monitor industry trends and competitive intelligence to ensure AFS provides timely adjustments on service offerings and pricing positions.
  • Establish and execute a standard approach for responding to request for proposals (RFPs) in support of a specific client or prospect.
  • Analytically fluent in pricing and cost data, capable of independently performing quantitative analysis to support client-facing recommendations.





Qualification/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or other technical and/or analytical field
  • 2 years of experience in key functional areas: supply chain management, logistics, decision support systems/technology, transportation management, distribution, or procurement functional responsibilities
  • Advanced Excel proficiency and basic SQL or equivalent data querying capabilities.
  • Experience in data mining and generating simulations to identify and scope opportunities within the customer’s supply chain.
  • Experience with various data modeling and network optimization platforms
  • Experience in multiple logistics-related systems and transportation management systems
  • Experience collecting and analyzing data for modeling, network optimization and/or transportation redesign purposes
  • Experience preparing and delivering presentations
  • Strong project management skills


Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

The Solutions Engineer will sit in front of a computer for long hours at a time responding to emails, communicating with carriers, and entering financial data. Staring at the computer may cause eye irritation or even muscle strain.


The job as Logistics Business Analyst does not require any strenuous or physical activity.


Customary Work Hours:8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday
