Job Description

Purpose:

Lead the creation, activation, and evolution of enterprise-wide development experiences that strengthen leadership effectiveness, workforce capability, career growth, and organizational performance. This role serves as a builder, innovator, and change agent who brings a strong technology and artificial intelligence mindset to reimagining how development happens across AbbVie.

Combining creativity, experimentation, business acumen, and digital fluency, this individual will identify new opportunities, challenge traditional approaches, and design scalable solutions that accelerate workforce readiness and business performance.

This is a hands-on leadership role that requires both strategic thinking and direct execution. Success will come from balancing vision with action, building new solutions where none exist today, and personally driving work from concept through implementation and adoption.

Responsibilities:

  • ENTERPRISE CAPABILITY BUILDING Identify emerging workforce capability needs and translate them into practical development solutions that help the organization prepare for future business challenges, evolving roles, and changing market demands.
  • LEADERSHIP Lead enterprise-wide development initiatives that support organizational priorities, workforce capability needs, leadership effectiveness, and employee growth. Coordinate efforts across Learning & Development and cross-functional partners to align around a common enterprise approach.
  • CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT AND FUTURE READINESS Continuously scan internal and external trends, identify opportunities for innovation, and champion new approaches that improve development effectiveness, increase adoption, and strengthen organizational capability. Actively build what does not yet exist rather than simply maintaining existing solutions.
  • DEVELOPMENT EXPERIENCE DESIGN Personally drive key initiatives from concept to implementation, maintaining a strong balance between strategic leadership and hands-on execution. Develop solutions, create content, facilitate working sessions, manage pilots, build stakeholder alignment, and translate ideas into tangible business outcomes. Operate with a "roll up your sleeves" mindset while helping establish the future direction of enterprise development.
  • CONTENT Develop content for virtual, in-person, and digital experiences, including learning resources, implementation materials, communications, and performance support tools. Apply adult learning principles and consult with subject matter experts and stakeholders to address capability needs.
  • QUALITY AND IMPACT Ensure development experiences are relevant, effective, aligned with business priorities, and grounded in clear measures of success. Evaluate outcomes and continuously improve solutions based on feedback and performance data.
  • PROJECT PLANNING Lead project plans and execution activities from design through evaluation. Coordinate resources, suppliers, communications, timelines, and implementation activities to achieve expected outcomes and maintain quality standards.
  • COMMUNICATION Prepare and deliver clear, concise, and influential communications, updates, recommendations, and presentations for stakeholders and leadership audiences. Communicate project status, outcomes, and strategic recommendations effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • SUPPLIER MANAGEMENT Manage external learning providers, facilitators, content partners, and consultants. Oversee contracts, statements of work, budgets, invoices, and performance to ensure quality delivery and strong return on investment.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Highly likeable and a superb collaborator and team player who can influence without authority at all levels
  • Proven leadership in large-scale initiatives
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills including editing are essential
  • Expertise in Project Management
  • Proficiency in tools like Adobe Suite, MS Office Suite, Publisher and other software as required
  • Expert level skills in WebEx and other virtual meeting software, OneDrive or similar shared drive technologies
  • Proven Instructional Design skills
  • Minimum of 5 year's of direct experience
