Landscape Estimator

Phoenix, AZ | Full-Time On-Site | On Target Earnings: $50,000–$70,000 DOE

Position Overview

Ronning Landscaping is seeking a detail-oriented Landscape Estimator to join our estimating team. This role is responsible for developing accurate, competitive bids for commercial landscape and installation projects. The ideal candidate brings a minimum of 2 years of hands-on estimating experience.

This position works closely with our sales and operations teams to ensure bids are accurate, timely, and aligned with company pricing standards. If you are organized, driven, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

Estimating & Bid Development

• Review planting, irrigation, hardscape, and site plans — including specifications and scopes of work — to develop accurate estimates

• Perform quantity takeoffs and calculate labor, materials, and equipment costs on our takeoff software, On Screen Takeoff (OST)

• Build competitive estimates aligned with company pricing and margin targets

• Identify scope gaps or inconsistencies and flag for review

• Prepare and submit professional proposals and bid packages on time

CRM & Pipeline Management

• Track all bids, updates, and communications within our CRM (Zoho)

• Maintain accurate deal records including bid amounts, timelines, and statuses

• Support pipeline forecasting by keeping data current and organized

• Coordinate with sales team on follow-ups and bid status

Client & Internal Coordination

• Communicate with general contractors and clients to clarify scope and expectations

• Respond to RFIs and provide clarifications during the bidding process

• Collaborate with sales and operations to ensure smooth handoff of awarded projects

• Build and maintain vendor relationships; request pricing quotes for granite, plant material, hardscape, and site furnishing materials

Process Improvement & Support

• Contribute to improving estimating templates, unit pricing, and processes

• Support the development of standardized assemblies and estimating tools

• Provide technical insight and scope clarification to internal teams as needed

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Bid-to-win ratio (%)

• Total revenue bid and awarded

• Estimate accuracy vs. actual job performance

• Gross margin performance on awarded projects

• Bid turnaround time

• Number of bids completed per month/quarter

• CRM data accuracy and pipeline visibility

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of landscaping experience required (commercial experience preferred)

• Experience with estimating, takeoffs, or project coordination is a plus

• Ability to read and interpret basic site plans and project scopes

• Solid understanding of landscaping methods, materials, and sequencing

• Proficient in Excel; experience with CRM systems is a plus

• Strong organization and communication skills

• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
