JOB DESCRIPTION

GENERAL FUNCTION

The Lab Associate is accountable for flawless execution in delivering exceptional customer service and crafting high-quality eyewear. Sets high standards of performance while maintaining quality. The Lab Associate models the Luxury Retail values by displaying a drive for excellence in lab operations and customer satisfaction.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Actively involved in coaching associates on Lab Best Practices.
  • Assists co-workers who have lab questions or problems; cooperates readily.
  • Takes immediate and independent action when needed in the lab; suggests improvements; recommends solutions to problems; does what is necessary without being prompted or reminded.
  • Produces quality eyewear through utilizing the QMP (Quality Manufacturing Process): selecting lenses, marking, taping, blocking, generating, finishing and polishing, finish layout and blocking, edging, tinting and grooving, mounting and final inspecting.
  • Responsible for basic operation, cleaning and ongoing maintenance of lab tools and equipment.
  • Strives to improve technical knowledge through the completion of the QM Program and continually applies that knowledge in the production of all eyewear.
  • Utilizes product knowledge to determine the best manufacturing process for routine and special orders in order to produce high quality eyewear.
  • Performs multiple tasks simultaneously with accuracy and thoroughness despite time pressures and customer volume.
  • Is attentive to detail with all measurements, calculations, equipment settings and defective product.
  • Takes the initiative to notice and follow-up on discrepancies; suggests improvements; recommends solutions and does what is necessary to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Takes pride in the appearance of the store and shows initiative in keeping the lab and stock room clean, organized and safe.
  • Complies with all safety/regulatory requirements ensuring supplies/chemicals are stored and used per chemical safety program. Keeps management informed of potential safety opportunities.
  • Demonstrates safe work practices and is OSHA compliant. (i.e. wears safety glasses while in the lab).
  • Assists customers/patients on the sales floor when needed as directed by the store manager.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Bench work and tinting experience
  • Lab edging experience
  • Strong Basic Math Skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Problem Solving Ability
  • Organization Skills
  • Computer Skills
  • Strong Communicator and Listener to Customers and Associates
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills
  • Knowledge of Store Merchandise

  • Optical background
  • Experience with machinery
