Job description

Middle / High School Social Studies Teacher

Andalusia School is seeking a dedicated Middle or High School Social Studies Teacher to teach history, civics, geography, government, and related subjects. The ideal candidate will create engaging lessons, support student learning, and help students develop strong reading, writing, discussion, and critical-thinking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach grade-appropriate Social Studies lessons.
  • Teach U.S. History, World History, Civics, Government, Geography, or related subjects as assigned.
  • Create lesson plans aligned with school curriculum and standards.
  • Use discussions, projects, writing assignments, document analysis, and assessments to support learning.
  • Maintain classroom structure, student engagement, and a positive learning environment.
  • Track attendance, grades, and student progress.
  • Communicate with parents, administration, and colleagues as needed.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, conferences, and school events as required.
  • Support the mission, values, and expectations of Andalusia School.

Requirements and Preferences

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Degree in History, Social Studies, Education, Political Science, or related field preferred.
  • State Teachers’ Certification, Initial or Professional, is preferred and compensated.
  • Enrollment in a teacher certification program is preferred and compensated.
  • An advanced degree in the field with teaching experience is preferred and compensated.
  • Middle or high school teaching experience preferred.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and organization skills required.
  • Familiarity with NY State standards or Regents preparation is a plus.
