Senior Accountant

Location: Saxonburg, PA

Summary

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Senior Accountant plays a critical role in supporting all aspects of the Finance function and serves as the primary backup to the Financial Controller. This position is responsible for month-end and year-end close activities, financial reporting, inventory and cost accounting, financial planning and analysis, manufacturing analytics, and supporting strategic business initiatives.

The Senior Accountant partners cross-functionally with Operations, Production, Supply Chain, Sales, and Finance to ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain strong internal controls, improve manufacturing performance, and provide meaningful financial analysis to support business decisions. This individual must be highly analytical, detail-oriented, collaborative, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.


Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Accounting & Reporting
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities.
  • Prepare and post journal entries and maintain supporting documentation.
  • Perform general ledger account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
  • Prepare and submit monthly financial reporting, forecasts, and annual business plans to the corporate office through OneStream.
  • Support annual audits and coordinate audit requests and schedules.
  • Assist the Financial Controller with SOX compliance and internal control activities.
Cost Accounting & Inventory
  • Maintain and update standard costs, direct labor rates, and overhead allocations.
  • Perform inventory accounting activities, including valuation, reconciliations, provisions, and roll-forwards.
  • Complete cost roll-ups for new inventory items and support costing initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate inventory valuation and standard costing.
  • Conduct cost studies, manufacturing variance analysis, and inventory trend analysis.
  • Perform slow-moving inventory analysis, inventory forecasting, and min/max inventory evaluations.
  • Support perpetual inventory initiatives, cycle counting, and physical inventories.
  • Review labor and material cost accuracy charged to production jobs.
  • Perform BOM cost analysis and manufacturing time studies.
Manufacturing & Operational Analytics
  • Analyze manufacturing variances, labor efficiencies, productivity, downtime, scrap, and operational performance metrics.
  • Prepare scrap reporting and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support Operations and Production with inventory optimization, production planning analytics, and operational reporting.
  • Perform margin analysis by product line, customer, labor, material, and manufacturing costs.
  • Support pricing analysis, transfer pricing analytics, and raw material cost impact studies.
  • Partner with Operations and Production teams to identify cost savings opportunities and improve manufacturing processes.
Financial Planning & Business Support
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Provide financial support for capital projects, commercial analyses, and business initiatives.
  • Perform capital project accounting and financial modeling.
  • Develop advanced Excel models, dashboards, reports, and financial analyses.
  • Support ERP system improvements, SAP enhancements, and process automation initiatives.
  • Serve as a key member of ERP implementation and continuous improvement projects.
Leadership & Cross-Functional Support
  • Serve as the primary backup to the Financial Controller and provide support across all accounting functions as needed.
  • Collaborate effectively with Operations, Production, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Sales, and Corporate Finance.
  • Support special projects and perform other accounting duties as assigned.

Education & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • 4–7 years of progressive accounting experience in a manufacturing environment or an equivalent combination of manufacturing accounting experience and education.
  • Strong cost accounting and inventory accounting experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Experience with OneStream or similar financial reporting software preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
