Job description

Deist Industries is looking for a Staff Accountant to join our team in an onsite role. Reporting to the Controller, this position supports both financial accounting and manufacturing cost management by maintaining accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and financial reporting. The Staff Accountant analyzes the financial impact of changes in product design, materials, and manufacturing processes to support profitability and operational decision-making. This role is responsible for supporting month-end close activities, account reconciliations, inventory controls, cost analysis, and ERP system integrity while ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies. Additionally, the position provides backup support for Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, assists with audits and process improvements, and partners with operations to ensure alignment between financial and manufacturing data.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Financial Period End Responsibilities

  • Support the period-end close process by preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and assisting with financial reporting to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP and TBEI requirements.
  • Ensure proper financial cut-offs are applied, including timely completion of work orders and adherence to inventory cut-off procedures in accordance with corporate policy.
  • Maintain and monitor the standard period-end close checklist to confirm all required entries and tasks are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Prepare period-end reports and key performance metrics for internal management and corporate reporting purposes.
  • Assist with end-of-month inventory processes, including inventory true up /valuation, cycle counts, and related reconciliations.

Accounting

  • Assist in analysis of changes in product design, materials, and manufacturing processes to evaluate financial impact on results, margins, and overall profitability.
  • Support financial reporting by maintaining accurate standard costs and ensuring alignment between operational data and the general ledger.
  • Perform variance analysis and provide reporting on financial performance, including margins, inventory valuation, and period results.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and track results in support of financial goals.
  • Monitor and report inventory discrepancies, including negative balances and incomplete work orders.
  • Ensure integrity of financial data within the ERP system, including BOM alignment, accurate inventory transactions, and proper general ledger account mapping.
  • Assist in the management of fixed assets by overseeing construction-in-progress projects, ensuring timely capitalization, accurate disposals, and conducting periodic asset inventories to maintain accuracy and compliance.
  • Support and enhance ERP (NetSuite) functionality, focusing on financial reporting, internal controls, and process improvements.

Miscellaneous Duties

  • Provides support and updates to customer records in NetSuite to ensure that customer credit lines are properly maintained and administered per TBEI guidelines
  • Provide support coverage for Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable.
  • Assist with sales tax compliance laws and ensure proper customer documentation is on file and remains current.
  • Assist with Quality cases and credit memos
  • Assist with internal / external audits of financial processes and compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley
  • Ensure procedures are GAAP and TBEI compliant.
  • Assists with and complete special projects as requested.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting with a focus on operational accounting in a high mix/high low volume manufacturing environment.
  • Must have a strong cost systems background dealing with products with multi-level BOMs
  • Excellent analytical, learning & logic skills,
  • Sound understanding of accounting principles
  • Prior experience in an accounting position is required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in writing, as well as verbally in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Experience with business software like NetSuite is a plus.

    Physical Demands & Work Environment:
    This position is primarily office-based and requires regular use of a computer, telephone, and other standard office equipment. Employees will frequently sit and use their hands for keyboarding and document handling, with occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching. The role may occasionally require lifting or moving items up to 30 pounds. Strong close-up vision and attention to detail are essential. Employees may occasionally be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, and the work environment typically has a moderate noise level.
