The Opportunity

We are looking for an energetic, motivated, and talented Financial Reporting Manager to join our Corporate Finance team. In this role, you'll be part of a collaborative and highly visible reporting and analysis team within the Controller’s organization. You'll play a key role in delivering high-quality financial reporting, supporting important business decisions, and helping MassMutual meet its regulatory and financial reporting obligations.

This is an exciting opportunity to work across accounting, reporting, technology, and analysis while partnering with internal stakeholders and external auditors. You’ll leverage reporting systems and financial data to prepare, analyze, and enhance audited financial statements and management reports that support the success of the business.

The Team

The Management, Statutory Audited and Regulatory Reporting team is part of MassMutual’s Corporate Finance Organization. We are a team of dedicated professionals who thrive on challenging work, collaboration, and delivering meaningful results.

Our team is responsible for providing timely, accurate, and reliable financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders while maintaining a strong control environment. We partner across the enterprise to support strategic initiatives, improve reporting processes, and provide insights that help drive informed business decisions. We value diverse perspectives, encourage innovative thinking, and foster an inclusive environment where team members can grow and succeed.

The Impact

As a Financial Reporting Manager, you will play a key role in the preparation and delivery of statutory audited financial statements while supporting management reporting, financial analysis, and critical reporting controls. In this role, you will:

  • Own the preparation, review, and delivery of quarterly and annual statutory financial statements, including footnote disclosures, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits, managing PBC requests, audit comments, and reporting deliverables.
  • Apply your accounting and business expertise to interpret statutory reporting requirements and deliver financial reporting results to senior leadership, regulatory agencies, external auditors, and the Board of Directors.
  • Execute and document key financial reporting controls, including statement tie-outs, disclosure reviews, fluctuation analyses, quality assurance procedures, and approval processes.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to offshore team members to ensure the timely and accurate preparation and submission of financial reports.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment while successfully managing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance reporting processes, improve efficiencies, and maximize the value of the reports and analyses produced by the team.
  • Prepare insightful financial analysis that clearly communicates key trends, business drivers, and results to stakeholders.
  • Research and assess new accounting guidance, industry developments, regulatory requirements, and emerging trends that may impact reporting.
  • Lead and contribute to cross-functional initiatives, including financial and regulatory reporting requirements associated with new products and business initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts that strengthen controls, streamline processes, and enhance reporting capabilities

The Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 6+ years of experience working with audited financial statements and disclosures
  • 3+ years of experience financial reporting, analytical, and problem-solving
  • 3+ years  of experience working with reporting tools, applications, and queries to create, enhance, and configure reports, dashboards, and decision-support analytics.
  • 3+ years of experience with Workiva (Wdesk) or another financial reporting platform, including the preparation and review of financial statements and disclosures

The Ideal Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • CPA designation
  • Experience validating and testing financial data and reports to ensure quality, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Knowledge of insurance and investment statutory accounting principles.
  • Experience working with general ledger systems, reporting cubes, data warehouses, and multiple financial data sources.
  • Experience validating and testing financial data and reports to ensure quality, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Experience with SAP general ledger systems.
  • Experience using Power BI and/or Alteryx to develop, enhance, or review reporting and analytics that support financial close and reporting activities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated strengths in customer focus, innovation, change management, strategic thinking, relationship building, and influencing others

What to Expect as Part of MassMutual and the Team

  • MassMutual offers the opportunity to do meaningful work within a purpose-driven organization that values long-term impact over short-term outcomes. In this role, you can expect:

  • Clear areas of ownership and accountability, with work that connects directly to company and customer outcomes

  • A collaborative environment where perspectives are welcomed

  • Access to learning, development, and internal networks that support continuous growth and skill-building over time
