Coordinating Engineer I
Chicago Department of Transportation
Division of Traffic Safety
Number of Positions: 1

Starting Salary: GY12 $119,472.00/year

As the manager of traffic technology and engineering, the positions will oversee and implement active traffic management, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and related projects. This position plays a critical role in managing the safe and efficient flow of over a million vehicles and pedestrians on Chicago streets every day.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Manages traffic signal engineers and consultants, review and approve signal timings, ITS designs, and ITS implementation projects.
• Reviews signal operations, coordinate with maintenance crews, other CDOT divisions, City departments, and external stake holders.
• Facilitates remote operation of traffic signals and intelligent transportation system field devices.
• Monitors real-time data received from the field and third-party sources and oversee the systems hosting transportation data and CDOT's Traffic Management Center.
• Identifies areas of concern for traffic safety and traffic flow and coordinate implementation of counter measures.
Additional duties may be required for this position.

Days: Monday-Friday
Hours: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, plus five (5) years of work experience in the planning, design, and construction management of engineering projects, of which three (3) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position, OR
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree or higher in Engineering, plus four (4) years of work experience in the planning, design, and construction management of engineering projects, of which three (3) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position
Depending upon department assignment, field of engineering may vary.
Registration as a Professional Engineer (R.P.E.) is required. Candidates with a Registration as a Professional Engineer (R.P.E.) in other states may apply, but at the time of employment, positions must have obtained Registration as a Professional Engineer (R.P.E.) in the State of Illinois.
Some positions may require a valid State of Illinois driver's license.
