Job description

Position Summary
Trenton is hiring an Electrical Engineer to support the design, development and debug of next-generation products, focusing on motherboards, custom compute boards, and backplanes. Trenton is a growing computer engineering company based in the U.S with a large backlog of new product development work and ongoing support of legacy products. As a new member of this team, the electrical engineer's role will include programming, debugging and bench testing newly developed printed circuit boards. They will participate in design reviews and assist with initial design efforts. This engineer will collaborate with senior team members to ensure the successful development of reliable and high-quality products.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design and development of printed circuit boards, including selecting components, creating schematics and layout design.
  • Create test documentation and perform tests at the component level and system level. Evaluate and resolve problems during initial board bring up and during NPI manufacturing.
  • Support the manufacturing team by providing technical assistance and resolving issues related to electrical designs.
  • Integrate third-party subsystems, including COTS power supplies, third-party motherboards, GPUs, and I/O cards such as network and storage.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, software, and test engineers, to ensure seamless integration of designs. Communicate with employees and supplier representatives in remote offices.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide input to improve design processes and product quality.
  • Support the engineering manager as necessary with special projects

Requirements
Required
  • BSEE or equivalent
  • 5-8 years of experience in electrical design or related field.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with hardware and software programming tools
  • Ability to read and create schematics, bill of materials, PCB layout and manufacturing drawings
  • Strong ability to solder surface mount components
  • Communicate with suppliers and field application engineers of Trenton's industrial partners
  • Communication with both manufacturing and engineering teams
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft office products and collaboration software.

Desired
  • Knowledge of DDR, PCIe, UPI, USB, and other high-speed interconnect. Knowledge of Intel architectures
  • Organization of test data and ability to track improvements or trends across many tests
  • Ability to plan for manufacturability and testing, during the early planning phases and then implement these tests through release to production.
  • Ability to design and assemble connectors, cabling, and test fixtures.
  • Knowledge and consistent implementation of ESD safety techniques in lab work
  • Familiarity with Linux based applications and computer systems
  • Ability to create scripts using Python, bash, TCL and other languages
