Job Overview:

The primary initial task for this position is to provide support to project lead and team electrical engineers on day-to-day discipline coordination issues, schedule updates, to assist with requisition paperwork, document redlining, and meeting notes, and to become familiar with the discipline activities, deliverables, and team dynamic. ย Additional potential activities may involve any combination of those described below.

In general, the expectation of Electrical Engineers is as follows:
Perform electrical engineering for power, oil and gas, and petrochemical projects. Design, analyze and prepare complex project deliverables for power generation systems, substations, power distribution systems, lighting & grounding systems, and other engineering systems as required by each project. Provide technical support for engineering, fabrication and construction

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Accredited engineering degree may be required by specific regions
  • Minimum 3-5 years of detailed electrical engineering experience ย 
  • Familiarity with the content and application of standards, codes and guidelines, including NEC, NFPA, IEEE and ANSI, and latest scientific and engineering methods
  • Technical knowledge of the detailed design engineering process
  • MS Office Suite including Excel and Word

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

  • Prefer BSEE degreeย 
  • Prefer PE or EIT certificate of registration
  • Experience with Smart Plant Electrical (SPEL), Aveva Electrical/Unified Engineering, ETAP
  • Prefer experience with Renewable sources - wind, solar, BESS
  • Prefer experience with Data Center power system design and engineering

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Prepare key project deliverables, including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Specifications and Datasheets
  • Electrical Load List
  • One-line diagrams
  • Motor control schematics
  • Electrical building and equipment layouts
  • Bills of Material
  • Cable sizing calculations
  • Conceptual studies and calculations
  • Cost and planning studies

Support Project Development and Coordination, including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Maintain and promote a focus on McDermott's end-product throughout engineering, fabrication or construction
  • Report to and coordinate with electrical engineering project lead and electrical task lead, as applicable
  • Effectively communicate with electrical and other disciplines engineering and design
  • Coordinate and manage change with full awareness of project impact
  • Assume responsibility for cost, schedule, and quantity and budget control

Develop and review vendor packages, including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Create requisition packages for Substations, Transformers, and Electrical materials
  • Create subcontract packages for Heat Tracing, Cathodic Protection and Electrical Installation
  • Review supplier documents for electrical and non-electrical packages
  • Attend Inspection and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of electrical equipment, motors and associated skids

Provide Site Support, including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Provide off-site and/or on-site technical support to Construction personnel
  • Coordinate with office personnel to resolve issues as needed
  • Provide technical support for Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of electrical equipment
  • Assist with precommissioning, energization, commissioning and start-up, as required by project
