Job description

Music Teacher - Full Time 

Location: Hamady Middle/High School, Flint, Michigan
Grade Level: 9-12th
Start Date: August 2025
Reports To: Principal
Union Affiliation: WHEA - Westwood Heights Education Association



  Overview:
Hamady Middle/High School is seeking a passionate and qualified Music Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will inspire students through engaging instruction in vocal and instrumental music, fostering creativity, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
 

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a Music (JX or JQ) endorsement
  • Completion of an approved teacher preparation program
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • Successful completion of the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) in Music
  • Completion of required reading coursework (3 semester credit hours for secondary level)
  • Documented clinical experience, including student teaching
 

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching music at the middle and/or high school level
  • Proficiency in both vocal and instrumental instruction
  • Ability to organize and lead performances, concerts, and extracurricular music activities
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and inclusive practices
 

Responsibilities:
  • Deliver standards-based instruction in music theory, performance, and appreciation
  • Develop lesson plans that align with Michigan curriculum standards
  • Assess student progress and provide timely feedback
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and engaging classroom environment
  • Participate in school events, professional development, and parent communication
