Role

We are seeking a Manager, Tax and Accounting, to join our Finance & Accounting Department. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the Company's tax program in Canada and the US and supporting technical accounting work streams under US GAAP. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven organization committed to innovation, sustainability, and leadership in the clean energy sector.

The role is based at our Vancouver office or our Reno, NV office and reports to the Senior Director, Reporting and Analysis. Occasional travel to other LAC offices, project sites, or vendor locations may be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the Company's tax program including the preparation of the tax provision for the consolidated external financial statements.
  • Support the preparation of the entity-level tax returns in Canada and the U.S.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the Company's external tax consulting firm, ensuring the timely completion of all tax-related deliverables and underlying schedules.
  • Coordinate the exchange of information, monitor adherence to deadlines, and perform documented reviews of all work products to ensure compliance with SOX requirements and internal control standards. Support all other tax-related work streams in the Company including Sales and Use tax and property taxes including influencing discussions with local tax authorities.
  • Be the primary point of contact with tax authorities and manage any related audit work streams working with the external tax firm.
  • Manage technical accounting projects including analysing impacts of new accounting policies and preparation of supporting memos and disclosures.
  • Support the process for the preparation of consolidated and subsidiary entity monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements in US GAAP.
  • Cross train with the two other Manager Accounting roles in the finance team to be able to provide back-up/vacation support whilst also enabling the individual to develop a strong understanding of the operations of the Company and knowing where to access key documents that will be required as part of the tax processes.
  • Work with external tax consultants and internal and external auditors.
  • Support SOX compliance and audit.

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in related field.
  • CPA accounting designation or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years working in the tax function in public practice or within industry.
  • Minimum of five (5) years accounting/tax work experience with a public company.
  • Experience with SAP as well as US GAAP and SOX considered an asset.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Strong supervisory skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
