The Maine Legislative Council is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of the Law and Legislative Reference Library. This is a full-time, nonpartisan senior management position with responsibility for directing one of several nonpartisan staff offices that work under the overall direction of the Executive Director of the Legislative Council. The Library, composed of 12 staff including the Director, serves as the State's law library and provides information and resources to Legislators, Legislative staff and members of the public. The Director provides overall direction and management of the library, coordinates print and digital collection development, and supervises staff. The ideal candidate is a person who values public service; is enthusiastic about supporting the important work of the Maine Legislature; has strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills; has experience with all aspects of library operations, such as reference, circulation and technical services; and has demonstrated aptitude and desire to build and foster collaborative, professional teams and develop or expand a large, digital library. A Master of Science in Library Science Degree or equivalent, with at least 5 years of progressively responsible library experience, are required. A law degree supplementing an MLS is desirable.
We offer a competitive salary and benefits package with salary ranging from $105,622 to $152,900. The bi-weekly dollar values of some State-paid benefits for full-time employees include: $15.22 for dental insurance; 14.06% of employee's pay towards retirement; and, depending on the employee's annual pay, at least 85% ($508.90) of health insurance premiums.
