Job description

We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and customer-focused individual to manage our hospital gift shop. The Gift Shop Manager oversees daily operations, including staff and volunteer coordination, inventory management, merchandising, and financial performance. This role plays an important part in enhancing the patient and visitor experience by ensuring a welcoming atmosphere and thoughtfully curated product selection.
The ideal candidate has retail or supervisory experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a healthcare environment. Responsibilities include training and scheduling team members, maintaining vendor relationships, tracking sales, and ensuring the shop operates efficiently and in alignment with hospital policies.

Purpose:
The manager is responsible for providing profitable, customer-centered management of the LHAS Presbyterian and Montefiore floral and gift shops, and to supervise all gift shop personnel. This position will work varied days and hours as needed including weekends.
Responsibilities:
  • Prepares and administers budgets totaling $800,000 dollars for two gift shops. Meets operating budget and revenue expectations
  • Supervises a minimum of 5.0 FTE's consisting of full-time and part-time sales associates and volunteers.
  • Establishes and regularly reviews gift shop policies.
  • Maintains Lottery machine.
  • Plans and buys a variety of merchandise for both the LHAS Presbyterian and Montefiore floral and gift shops.
  • Monitors cash accounts, deposits, and disbursements for both shops.
  • Ensures that all shop areas including selling floor, back rooms, and inventory areas are clean and orderly at all times.
  • Develops annual promotional plans based on marketing studies and surveys.
  • Maintains an awareness of shoplifting potential and develops procedures to prevent shoplifting.
  • Responsible for lottery deposit, changing tickets daily in each machine, and balancing monies from each machine.
  • Prepares appropriate financial management records, reports, and comparison studies for gift shop and lottery operations at both shops.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business management, marketing, retail management, or equivalent experience required. Minimum of three to five years of experience in retail management and buying with capability of handling all aspects of shop operation required. Gift shop management, especially hospital gift shop management, preferred. Strong customer relations, communications, and bookkeeping skills required. Working knowledge of Windows and retail accounting software preferred.
