Job description

Primary Care Physician Opportunity

Join Our Mission in Beautiful Southern California The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System is seeking (1) dedicated, full-time Primary Care Physician to join one of the nation's largest and most innovative VA healthcare systems. The VA is mission-oriented and provides exceptional care to those who have served in our nation's military. PCPs lead patient-centered medical homes to provide longitudinal and preventative care to a panel of Veterans. Primary care team members include nurses, social workers, integrated mental health providers, and pharmacists, administrative support for scheduling, among others. The GLA VA is affiliated with David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Opportunities exist for an academic appointment at UCLA as a clinician-educator to teach medical students, internal medicine residents and other trainees. Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Major duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Provide comprehensive primary and acute care services to Veterans in an outpatient setting to include management of acute illness, chronic disease management and preventive health.
  • Manage patient care through assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, consultations, and maintenance of accurate medical documentation.
  • Conduct same day care services and provide cross coverage for other providers as needed.
  • Supervise and train resident physicians and medical students.
  • Collaborate with mid-level providers (Nurse Practitioners and/or Physician Assistants).
  • Participate in quality assurance, process improvement, systems redesign, and advanced clinical access initiatives in support of VA national, VISN, and local performance goals.
  • Support administrative task related to patient management, and maintenance of treatment records within Primary Care services.
  • Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and utilize community agencies to facilitate treatment planning, schedule procedures, continuity of care, and problem resolution.
  • Promote a collaborative and professional work environment by fostering cooperation, maintaining courteous interactions, and meet program goals and customer needs.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
