Job Description:
Reporting to the Director of Business & Auxiliary Services, the Manager of Events & AV Services provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for Events & Conference Services and Audio Visual Services. The Manager directs the planning, coordination, production, and execution of student, academic, athletic, institutional, and external events while overseeing professional staff, technical personnel, and student employees. The position maximizes facility utilization, enhances customer service, increases auxiliary revenue, and ensures high-quality event and audiovisual experiences through sound operational, financial, and personnel management.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Administration
  • Provide strategic leadership for Events & Conference Services and Audio Visual Services.
  • Develop departmental goals, KPIs, policies, SOPs, and service standards.
  • Oversee campus event scheduling and facility utilization.
  • Manage event management systems including Ad Astra and Event Guru.
  • Ensure compliance with University policies, contracts, safety, and risk management.
  • Serve as senior event manager for major institutional events.
  • Implement continuous process improvements.

Event & Conference Services
  • Oversee the complete event lifecycle from inquiry through close-out.
  • Coordinate space scheduling, contracts, logistics, and event execution.
  • Manage external rentals and conference services.
  • Resolve complex client issues and ensure exceptional customer service.
  • Maintain accurate operational documentation.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to deliver successful events.

Audio Visual Services
  • Lead campus-wide AV operations for meetings, ceremonies, athletics, broadcasts, livestreams, and hybrid events.
  • Oversee AV staffing, equipment inventory, maintenance, and technology replacement.
  • Manage vendor relationships and service agreements.
  • Support arena productions and control room operations.

Financial & Business Operations
  • Partner with Director and Business Manager to develop and monitor operating budgets.
  • Oversee estimates, contracts, invoicing, accounts receivable coordination, and financial reporting.
  • Monitor revenue, expenditures, utilization, and customer satisfaction metrics.
  • Identify opportunities to increase operational efficiency and revenue.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement and financial control procedures.

Personnel Leadership & Campus Partnerships
  • Recruit, supervise, evaluate, and develop staff and student employees.
  • Develop staffing plans and training programs.
  • Promote collaboration, accountability, and customer service excellence.
  • Build partnerships with Facilities, Public Safety, Athletics, OIT, Dining, Housekeeping, Procurement, Controller's Office, and other internal entities.
  • Represent Business & Auxiliary Services on committees and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Event Management, Higher Education Administration, Communications, Technology, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in event management, conference services, audiovisual services, auxiliary services, hospitality management, or related operations, including supervisory experience.
  • Experience supervising professional staff and student employees.
  • Experience managing operating budgets, contracts, and revenue-generating operations.
  • Experience using Ad Astra, Event Guru, EMS, 25Live, or similar scheduling platforms.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of audiovisual technologies, livestreaming, hybrid events, and event production.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, project management, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • CMP, CTS, CASP, or related professional certification.
  • Experience in higher education, conference services, athletics, or large-venue event operations.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Valid Maryland class C driver's license or equivalent is required and candidate must fulfill the requirements to operate a Maryland State Vehicle.
