Job description

Bring your ambulatory nursing expertise to a specialty pediatric orthopedic clinic where clinical judgment, hands-on skill, and family-centered care come together every day. This is a high-impact RN role for a nurse who enjoys triage ownership, procedural variety, and meaningful relationships with pediatric patients and families.
As part of UVA Health Children's Hospital, you will support children and young adults with a broad range of musculoskeletal needs, from chronic neurologic and orthopedic conditions to acute injuries and complex referrals. You will practice in the Battle Building, a child-centered ambulatory environment where nurses play an essential role in coordinating care, supporting providers, and helping families navigate treatment plans with confidence.
The Role
This outpatient pediatric orthopedic RN role offers the best of ambulatory nursing: a predictable clinic environment, close collaboration with specialty providers, and the opportunity to use strong assessment skills to help determine the right care pathway for each child. You will care for patients ranging from birth through young adulthood, including children with cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spinal disorders, complex orthopedic conditions, fractures, sports injuries, and other acute orthopedic concerns.
In this role, you will:
  • Own and manage triage work queues - reviewing referrals from emergency departments, urgent care centers, and external providers.
  • Evaluate patient needs through chart review, clinical history, and diagnostic imaging.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and clinic staff to determine urgency, scheduling needs, and treatment plans.
  • Provide ongoing triage and care coordination for pediatric patients with chronic orthopedic conditions.
  • Support clinic flow through patient rooming, education, and provider assistance.
  • Perform and support orthopedic procedures including cast application and removal, splint placement and removal, and procedural care.
  • Assist with in-clinic procedures such as Botox injections and tendon releases.
  • Utilize Epic systems including triage work queues, scheduling workflows, MyChart, and In Basket messaging.
  • Build expertise in ambulatory nursing while developing advanced assessment, prioritization, and clinical decision-making skills.

This position is ideal for an RN who values clinical autonomy, hands-on orthopedic experience, and the opportunity to build lasting relationships with pediatric patients and their families. You will make a meaningful difference while working alongside a highly collaborative team dedicated to exceptional patient outcomes.
