Job description
The Fremont Energy Center is a 540 MW natural gas-fired generating station with a 2 x 1 configuration, offering operational flexibility and efficiency. Notably, it has 163 MW of duct-firing capacity, allowing for increased electricity production by utilizing exhaust heat from the gas turbines. As a reliable and adaptable power generation facility, the Fremont Energy Center plays a crucial role in meeting the region's energy demands and ensures a stable electricity supply.
Opportunity Summary
The Instrumentation Controls and Electrical (IC&E) Technician oversees the maintenance and repair of all instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment supporting the Fremont Energy Center’s 2 x 1 natural gas-fired generating configuration and associated facilities. This role demands high-level skills for inspecting, repairing, testing, adjusting, installing, and safely removing electronic and electrical components, including systems supporting the plant’s 163 MW duct-firing capability. The technician’s expertise is pivotal in ensuring the optimal performance, flexibility, and reliability of the facility’s instrumentation and electrical infrastructure, supporting stable and efficient power generation.
Your scope of responsibility as IC&E Technician includes the following primary functions:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on instrumentation, electrical systems, and control equipment to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, calibrate, repair, and install plant instrumentation, motors, transformers, breakers, and associated electrical systems up to 4160 volts to maintain reliable plant operations.
- Monitor and maintain Distributed Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), and turbine control systems to ensure efficient and flexible power generation performance.
- Diagnose and resolve instrumentation and electrical equipment malfunctions to minimize downtime and support continuous plant availability.
- Maintain and test emergency backup power systems, communication systems, and critical plant protection equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Support outage planning and execution activities by coordinating instrumentation and electrical maintenance tasks for major plant equipment and auxiliary systems.
- Maintain accurate equipment histories, calibration records, electrical drawings, technical manuals, and preventive maintenance documentation for assigned systems.
- Assist in managing spare parts inventory for instrumentation and electrical equipment to improve equipment reliability and maintenance efficiency.
- Perform routine testing, calibration, and maintenance of plant analyzers, transmitters, sensors, and control valves to sustain operational accuracy and compliance.
- Utilize the site CMMS program to document completed work, review maintenance schedules, and support planning of preventive and predictive maintenance activities.
- Coordinate weekly maintenance routines and verify completion of scheduled preventative maintenance tasks in support of plant operational goals.
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance personnel to identify equipment reliability improvements and implement corrective maintenance solutions.
- Support and actively participate in NAES safety initiatives, environmental compliance programs, and plant regulatory requirements while promoting safe work practices.
- Provide maintenance coordination and planning support to plant leadership by assisting with work prioritization, contractor coordination, and maintenance scheduling activities.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by plant management to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and maintenance of the facility.
