Position Summary
Mesabi Metallics is looking for an Electrical Engineer that will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment for mining and plant operations. This role involves ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of electrical systems, troubleshooting electrical issues, and overseeing electrical projects from conception through to completion. The Electrical Engineer will work closely with other engineering disciplines, maintenance teams, and contractors to support operational goals and compliance with industry standards.
Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the General Manager - Processing, the Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the following:
  • Review and design electrical components and systems, including instrumentation, controls, motors, DCS/PLC, switchgear, transformers, MCC's, lighting, grounding, cable tray, power distribution systems and relaying;
  • Review technical specifications and drawings of electrical systems, adding value and constructability; ensure compliance with all applicable codes and standards;
  • Direct electrical construction and ensure compliance to design codes and budget;
  • Cable routing, interpretation of drawings and schematics, substation and electrical control room erection, electrical equipment troubleshooting, checkout, loop testing, etc.
  • Lead and mentor any assigned staff;

Skills and Qualifications
  • 5 years of related industry experience
  • Exposure to Mesabi Ranging mining operations preferred
  • Exhibited effectiveness in verbal and written communications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to safety best practices

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in related professional / technical curriculum

Physical Requirements
  • This position requires some work in front of a PC, desk, and phone and regular field work.
  • Some lifting and strength required.

Salary Range:
  • $75,000 - $123,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
