Job description

Join AMI Consulting Engineersโ€™ Marine Groupโ€”a team that thrives on adventure, problem-solving, and purpose-driven engineering. Weโ€™re looking for an Engineer and Commercial Diver to support our growing portfolio of waterfront, coastal, and underwater projects across the Great Lakes and Gulf Coast regions.

In this role, youโ€™ll combine engineering expertise with underwater fieldwork, performing dive inspections, remotely operated vehicle (ROV) assessments, and underwater imaging. Youโ€™ll also conduct marine bathymetric, drone, and LiDAR surveys and complete top-side inspections and condition assessments that support innovative, sustainable designs for waterfront infrastructure.

What Youโ€™ll Do

Perform detailed engineering calculations and technical analyses for marine and structural projects.

Conduct underwater inspections as a commercial diver on a wide variety of structures, including piers, seawalls, and bulkheads.

Perform ROV inspections, underwater imaging, bathymetric, drone, and LiDAR surveys.

Complete topside field inspections, condition assessments, and detailed reporting.

Assist in the preparation of engineering plans, project specifications, and bid documents.

Support project management activitiesโ€”budgets, schedules, contractor coordination, and client communication.

Prepare clear, professional reports and project documentation.

Mentor junior engineers and technicians and contribute to a collaborative, learning-oriented team culture.

Participate in the development of project scopes, cost estimates, and client proposals.

Coordinate and integrate subconsultant work on multi-disciplinary projects.

Bring creative thinking and practical problem-solving to every stage of design and construction.

Uphold AMIโ€™s Core Values: Client Focused Approach, Integrity & Trust, Creativity & Innovation, and Employee Success.

Your Qualifications

Bachelorโ€™s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.

ADCI Commercial Diver certification (or equivalent military qualification).

3+ years of inspection or marine engineering experience.

Passed EIT/FE exam.

Strong technical, analytical, and computer skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Experience with surveying, bathymetry, ROV inspections, imaging, or drone data collection.

A proactive, self-motivated mindset with strong time-management skills.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work safely in a physically active, outdoor environment.

Why AMI

At AMI, youโ€™ll be part of a close-knit team of problem solvers, innovators, and adventurers who design, inspect, and restore the nationโ€™s waterfronts and coastal environments. We offer opportunities to grow your expertise in marine engineering and project managementโ€”both above and below the waterlineโ€”while contributing to projects that make a lasting impact.
