Description
The golf groundskeeper-often called a greenskeeper or turf maintenance worker-maintains the quality, playability, and aesthetics of a golf course. They operate heavy machinery, manage turf, and perform manual labor to ensure the grounds remain safe, healthy, and compliant with golf course standards.
This position offers free golf!
Responsibilities
• Mowing greens, tees, fairways, and roughs to precise heights.
• Raking, edging, and weeding sand bunkers daily.
• Changing pin (hole) locations and moving tee markers.
• Repairing ball marks, divots, and fractured turf.
• Cleaning and maintaining water coolers, ball washers, and trash bins.
• Applying fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.
• Assisting with the repair and maintenance of irrigation systems.
Equipment Operation
• Walking and riding greens mowers, tractors, and utility vehicles.
• Using power edgers, string trimmers, and motorized leaf blowers.
• Operating specialized equipment like aerators and verticutters.
• Performing routine safety checks, cleaning, and refueling of machinery.
Qualifications
• Work typically starts early, often around dawn (5:30 AM) to avoid interfering with golfers.
• Involves heavy physical labor outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, humidity, cold).
• Requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift heavy objects.
• High school diploma or equivalent is usually preferred.
• Valid driver's license is generally required.
