Job Title: Dimensional Inspector

Job Description

The Dimensional Inspector II monitors, measures, and documents product characteristics against engineering drawings and customer requirements throughout the manufacturing process and at final inspection. This role ensures that complex weldments and fully machined parts meet all specified standards and that non-conforming products do not ship to customers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed dimensional, visual, and functional inspections of complex weldments, 100% machined parts, components, assemblies, and raw materials, and clearly document and communicate inspection results.
  • Prepare first part and in-process inspection reports using precision handheld measurement equipment, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), gauges, and related tools.
  • Review customer drawings, specifications, and acceptance criteria to determine appropriate inspection methods and to identify, document, and communicate any drawing or specification errors.
  • Define and deliver timely, accurate responses to customer requests and inquiries related to product quality and inspection findings.
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing teams to prevent non-conforming products, support root-cause analysis, and continuously improve inspection and production processes.
  • Create nonconformance reports and develop or support corrective action plans when required, ensuring clear documentation and follow-up.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 quality system requirements and standards in all inspection activities and documentation.
  • Operate CMM equipment and Faro laser tracker to perform complex dimensional inspections and generate accurate inspection reports.
  • Conduct first part, in-process, and final inspections, including visual inspections and CMM-based inspections, and maintain complete and accurate inspection records.
  • Participate in customer interactions related to inspection results, nonconformances, and corrective actions, representing the quality function professionally.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in quality inspection or an associate degree in a field related to quality control or business.
  • Extensive knowledge of inspection and measurement techniques and equipment, including calipers, micrometers, gauges, and CMMs.
  • Extensive knowledge of machining and machining processes relevant to large machined parts and weldments.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Demonstrated experience performing highly detailed dimensional, visual, and functional inspections of large machined parts and weldments.
  • Ability to operate a CMM with basic programming experience, preferably including Faro systems.
  • Proficiency in preparing first part, in-process, and final inspection reports and documenting inspection findings clearly and accurately.
  • Experience creating nonconformance reports and supporting or developing corrective action plans.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills applied to quality and inspection challenges.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail in both inspection and documentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with internal teams and customers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for reporting and documentation.
  • Ability to learn and use computer systems such as an ERP system to record and track quality data.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality management systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a field related to quality control or business, as an alternative to the experience requirement.
  • Experience with AS9100 quality management systems.
  • Prior experience using Faro laser trackers for dimensional inspection.
  • Experience in customer-facing quality roles, including handling customer inquiries and communicating inspection results.
  • Familiarity with quality documentation practices such as inspection reports, nonconformance reports, and corrective action documentation.
