Job description

The Quality Assurance (QA) Manager is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Company’s Quality Assurance program. Reporting to the East Regional Director, this role provides operational oversight, conducts audits and training, supports technology initiatives, and serves as a subject matter expert in grading and inspection processes. The QA Manager works closely with operations, customers, processors, growers, and inspection personnel to ensure consistent quality standards and program effectiveness across all locations.

COMPENSATION

The salary range is $75,000 - $90,000. Medical, dental, vision, matching 401(k)/CA retirement, and performance bonus PTO and Holidays.

NOTE: Final compensation will be based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and work location.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Company's Quality Assurance program.

Keep the East Regional Director informed of QA program effectiveness, compliance, and performance at each operation.

Serve as the organization's subject matter expert on grading standards, grading procedures, and inspection methodologies.

Conduct required quality audits annually, including travel to operational locations as needed.

Perform routine site visits to monitor inspection activities, assess compliance, and conduct root cause analyses related to grading or quality concerns.

Assist with operational start-ups by developing procedures, supporting documentation, and delivering hands‑on training to inspection personnel.

Support the development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of the Company's digital QA program.

Assist in the creation, revision, and maintenance of inspection and quality assurance documentation, including but not limited to: Job procedures; QA procedures; Grading reference materials and aids; Weekly training materials; Digital QA applications; Online testing and assessment programs.

Participate in the evaluation, testing, validation, implementation, and ongoing support of inspection technologies and related operational procedures.

Assist in reviewing processor and grower agreements and implementing necessary updates to related RFIs and procedures.

Develop, maintain, and update Request for Inspection (RFI) documentation.

Coordinate the procurement and inventory management of analytical instruments, grading equipment, and inspection supplies.

Review monthly quality assurance documentation and prepare monthly QA summary reports.

Conduct inspection report audits to verify accuracy, consistency, and compliance with established standards.

Compile, analyze, and report Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data to support operational and quality objectives.

Perform other duties, projects, and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Plant Science, Food Science, Quality Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.

Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, accountability, and a strong commitment to quality.

Ability to meet customer requirements and safety standards for plant and facility access.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, including the ability to interpret data and perform statistical calculations such as averages, percentages, and trend analysis.

Exceptional attention to detail and a proven ability to produce accurate, reliable, and consistent work.

Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Proficient technical writing skills with the ability to develop procedures, training materials, reports, and quality documentation.

Advanced computer proficiency, including:

Microsoft Word (advanced document creation and formatting)

Microsoft Excel (data analysis, reporting, and spreadsheet development)

Microsoft Outlook and other business software applications

Extensive knowledge of potato grading, inspection procedures, and quality assurance principles is preferred.

Ability to distinguish colors accurately and assess product quality characteristics.

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds safely and regularly.

Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, and remain mobile for extended periods.

Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.

Ability to work safely in environments involving noise, dust, odors, moving equipment, conveyor systems, forklifts, trucks, and other operational hazards.

Ability to safely navigate uneven, muddy, icy, wet, or slippery surfaces while performing job duties.

Willingness and ability to travel as required to conduct audits, training, operational assessments, and customer support activities.
