Job Description:

The Business Development Manager maintains the business development relationship with attorneys in the Health & Life Sciences practice group, while driving collaboration across other practice areas as it relates to core initiatives. This position develops and implements business development strategies in order to expand client relationships, increase revenue and client loyalty, while overseeing business development team members and departmental processes. The Business Development Manager relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish practice group goals and foster cross-practice initiatives.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Organize and drive client targeting programs and campaigns for supported areas, including prompting and monitoring pursuit activities, and tracking and reporting on results
  • Identify and facilitate cross-selling opportunities within the designated practice group and other firm practice groups, including crafting and executing a range of go-to-market strategies around these opportunities and collaborating with other BD team members
  • Monitor industry trends and conduct strategic research on potential clients, competitors and practice developments to identify business and legal opportunities and ensure optimal positioning to grow market share
  • Serve as the primary lead for high-priority, high-visibility affinity groups within the Health & Life Sciences Practice Group, ensuring alignment with broader practice and firmwide strategic initiatives.
  • Drive collaboration within BD department and firm teams and resources, identifying and leveraging synergistic opportunities to enhance service offerings
  • Lead and draft content for RFPs, pitches and other opportunities, including coordinating with other business development team members, conducting follow up and tracking results in Salesforce
  • Oversee the strategic planning and execution of Signature McDermott events, maximizing engagement and business impact.
  • Serve as lead point person for practice and firm-wide events, overseeing content, targeting, speaker engagement, event logistics, and follow-up reporting
  • Identify and facilitate participation in sponsorships, conferences, memberships and other key profile-building opportunities for the practice, office and individual lawyers
  • Guide lateral hires through the integration process, aligning them with firm priorities and monitoring milestones
  • Manage assigned legal directory and league ranking submissions, and assist the awards team in the generation of matters and other information for awards submissions
  • Manage and support at least one direct report through project workflows, monitoring performance and providing regular constructive feedback, while also contributing to the annual staff performance evaluation processes
  • Manage, review and track the business development budget for the designated affinity group
  • Consult with attorneys to develop and monitor individual business development goals and plans
  • Review and regularly update collateral and experience for the designated practice group, including practice-wide communications, brochures, and presentations

Job Specifications:

  • At least eight (8) years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word)
  • Knowledge of client relationship management (CRM) software

Target Hiring Range $131,000 - $203,000
Please note that quoted salary ranges are not guarantees of what final salary offers may be. Base pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. Base pay is only one part of the Total Rewards that MWE provides to compensate and recognize our staff professionals for their work. Full time positions are eligible for a discretionary bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.
