Job description

Description: The Maintenance Technician III is a senior-level technical expert with a detailed understanding of facilities operations. This role is responsible for advanced troubleshooting, planning and executing complex repairs and upgrades, developing maintenance procedures, and serving as a technical resource and mentor to Facilities staff.  This position will report to the Manager of Facilities.

This position is a full-time position (40 hrs/week) with an hourly rate of $30-$38 per hour (commensurate with experience).  Full-time staff are also eligible for our excellent benefits package including health/vision/dental, paid vacation and holidays, 403(b) retirement plan with employer match, education assistance, and other benefits.  The Danforth Center has consistently received the Top Workplace award in the St. Louis region.   


Responsibilities:

·         Diagnose and resolve complex equipment and system malfunctions across HVAC, electrical, plumbing, controls/building automation, and facility infrastructure

·         Develop, plan, and execute repair, maintenance, and upgrade projects for building systems

·         Create and maintain procedural documentation, repair standards, and task instructions to support staff consistency and safety

·         Perform advanced skilled work on building systems and laboratory support equipment

·         Serve as a subject matter expert in a specialized technical trade while maintaining strong working knowledge of multiple trades

·         Provide guidance, mentoring, and technical support to Maintenance Technicians I and II

·         Coordinate and oversee contractor work, ensuring compliance with scope, safety, and quality standards

·         Participate fully in the rotating on-call program and provide higher-level after-hours support

·         Ensure all work is documented accurately in the CMMS

·         Other duties as assigned

 

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

·         Specialization in a specific technical trade along with general understanding of multiple trades.  

·         Detailed and comprehensive understanding of facilities operations and building systems

·         Strong computer skills for using work order system (CMMS), sending email, and other documentation.

·         Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks efficiently and with quality

·         Strong work ethic and reliability is essential

·         Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

·         Ability to work independently, manage daily task loads, and prioritize work effectively

·         Good communication skills, both verbal and written.  

·         Ability to communicate with a diverse group of end users.

·         Well-organized, with ability to schedule tasks and timelines appropriately

·         Willingness to work occasional weekend day(s) or after-hours when needed for on-call work

Qualifications:

·         Required:

o   Trade school diploma or minimum of 10 years of hands-on trade and facilities maintenance experience

o   Proven record of consistent, successful performance in an Operations & Maintenance (O&M) environment

o   Demonstrated effectiveness as a communicator and mentor

·         Preferred:

o   10+ years of facilities maintenance experience

 

Physical Demands:

·         Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs comfortably

·         Must be able to work in high heat and humidity

·         Comfortable with safely working at heights up to 25 ft

·         Requires standing, walking, bending, stooping and reaching for extended periods of time-- 80% or more of the workday is standing on feet

·         Ability to transport carts, cumbersome supplies, etc. up ramps

·         May be required to perform tasks at varying heights (e.g. climb ladders, etc.)

·         Ability to utilize computer keyboard (typing)
