Business Development Manager
At Microbiologics, our impact goes far beyond the lab. As a global biotechnology company with a strong reputation for quality, collaboration, and scientific rigor, we support the health and safety of people around the world through trusted biological products and services.
Everything we do is grounded in our core values: We Win Together, Driven to Achieve, Brave, Bold and Confident, and We Care, which guide how we work, make decisions, and support one another.
We are seeking a Business Development Manager to play a key role in driving growth across our contract manufacturing, custom services, and product portfolio within the diagnostics and biopharma R&D markets. This role is designed for a strategic and customer-focused professional who can identify new opportunities, grow key accounts, and translate market needs into business results.
To Be Considered for This Position, Candidates Must Have the Following Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred
• Experience: 10 years of related experience in business development or sales
• 4 or more years of experience in medical device, microbiology diagnostics, food, pharmaceutical, or clinical laboratory supply sales
• Strong experience building and growing key accounts and developing strategic sales plans
• Ability to analyze markets, competition, and pricing to guide business decisions
• Preferred: Experience in virology, vaccine development, infectious disease diagnostics, or related markets
Why You'll Love This Role
At Microbiologics, Business Development is more than sales, it is a strategic driver of growth across the organization. In this role, you will:
• Lead business development and key account growth in high impact markets
• Shape how we expand into new products, services, and customer segments
• Influence cross functional priorities by partnering with Marketing, R&D, and Operations
• Bring forward market insights that help guide leadership decisions
• Play a direct role in driving revenue and long-term growth
You will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working in an environment where our values show up in everyday decisions, whether that is collaborating to win together, pushing to achieve more, stepping forward with bold ideas, or showing care for our colleagues and customers.
What You'll Do
Business Development and Account Growth
• Establish new accounts and grow key corporate accounts across diagnostics and biopharma R&D markets
• Identify and pursue new business opportunities aligned with company strengths and value proposition
• Develop and execute strategic account and market plans
Sales Strategy and Execution
• Develop and execute business plans and sales strategies that achieve revenue and profitability goals
• Manage forecasts, budgets, and expenses in alignment with company expectations
• Lead efforts to expand into new markets, products, and services
Cross Functional Collaboration
• Partner closely with Marketing, R&D, and Operations to align offerings with customer needs
• Support internal teams with sales related expertise and strategic input
• Collaborate across the organization to advance company goals
Market Insights and Customer Engagement
• Provide timely feedback on products, markets, competition, and pricing to senior leadership
• Build relationships with key opinion leaders and strategic stakeholders
• Represent Microbiologics through customer meetings, presentations, and industry events
Who Thrives Here
We believe strong business development comes from a combination of experience, curiosity, and how we show up for each other. This role is a strong fit for someone who:
• Builds trust quickly and develops strong customer relationships
• Communicates clearly and confidently across technical and business audiences
• Thinks strategically while staying focused on execution
• Stays organized and manages multiple priorities effectively
• Takes ownership of results and follows through
• Aligns with our values by working collaboratively, striving for excellence, bringing forward ideas with confidence, and demonstrating care for others
Additional Requirements
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
• This is a remote position with up to 50 percent travel required
Who We Are
Microbiologics is a global biotechnology company and trusted partner to healthcare and life science organizations worldwide. For more than 50 years, we have supported laboratories, manufacturers, and suppliers with high quality biological control materials, assay services, and consulting.
Headquartered in St. Cloud, Minnesota, with additional facilities across the United States and in Rostock, Germany, we are driven by how we work as much as what we deliver. We win together through collaboration, push ourselves to achieve more, bring forward ideas with confidence, and care deeply about the people we serve and the colleagues we work alongside. These values shape our culture and guide how we support our customers and each other every day.
What We Offer
