Job description

Delivery Manager

Primary Objective:

To manage the performance and processes involved with the delivery department of the assigned area.

Development of the Delivery Manager

The Delivery Manager with proper development can expect opportunities to move into roles such as Operations Manger.

Product Knowledge – understand the entire portfolio

Participate in executive, management, and company staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars.

Continued education programs when necessary:

  • Encompass training
  • Safety training
  • Continuous DOT/ safety requirement classes

Essential Function

  • Maintain a clean and valid Driver’s License for a minimum of 60 months.
  • Communicate orally or in written form effectively with co-management, internal, and external customers.
  • Execute the hiring process (interviewing, onboarding, paperwork) to ensure right fit for job
  • Manage all accident reporting
  • Engage and develop Area Delivery Managers to deliver results by communicating company goals, expectations, and deadlines
  • Communicate continuous improvement methods while maintaining company focus goals
  • Teach, coach, and train Area Delivery Managers on processes and procedures to maximize profit and productivity
  • Ensure all internal audit guidelines are followed
  • Monitor key business indicators. Develop action plan to increase productivity gains and decrease shrink
  • Establish behaviors that ensure safe working environment and ensures all Area Delivery Managers and Drivers are trained on safe working techniques
  • Schedule/allocate relief help to ensure all routes are covered
  • Distribute uniforms and ensure everyone is adhering to uniform policy
  • Weekly truck inspections (cleanliness, operating conditions)
  • Manage truck operations (pre-trip/post-trip Inspections daily)
  • Manage delivery hours (14 Hour Rule)
  • Ensure all equipment is in working conditions (printers, sleds, pallet jacks, hand trucks) and assigned to each driver.
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings
  • Dynamic routing as needed (on-premise routing) in tight geographic area
  • Close working relationship with Sales and Warehouse Managers, as well as with Fleet Maintenance team.
  • Reasoning Ability - must demonstrate the ability to anticipate and solve practical problems or resolve issues.
  • Proficient in Encompass software
  • Excellent Customer service skills

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Delivery Managers are required to possess and maintain a clean and valid license for a minimum of 60 months and ABC permit for the purpose of peddling alcoholic products.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business, Marketing or Organizational Management is required.

Some college course work completed may be accepted with significant (5-10 years) delivery experience with management duties.
