Job description

Join Our Team as a Working Café Manager at Rainshadow Café!

Are you an experienced café professional with a passion for great coffee, excellent service, and smooth operations? Rainshadow Café, located in beautiful Sequim, WA, is seeking a dependable and hands-on Working Café Manager to lead our team and ensure every day runs like clockwork. If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves, lead by example, and take ownership of a thriving café, we’d love to hear from you!

About Us

At Rainshadow Café, we pride ourselves on creating a welcoming environment where customers enjoy exceptional drinks, delicious food, and friendly service. We’re a team that values hard work, clear communication, and proactive problem-solving. Our café operates in a charming older building, which adds character but also requires a manager who’s comfortable troubleshooting and maintaining equipment.

What You’ll Do

As the Working Café Manager, you’ll take on a variety of responsibilities to keep the café running smoothly. This is a hands-on role where you’ll regularly work barista shifts while managing operations. Here’s what your day-to-day might look like:

  • Lead by Example: Work regular barista shifts, setting the standard for exceptional service and quality.
  • Maintain Standards: Ensure high levels of customer service, cleanliness, food safety, and organization.
  • Employee Support: Train and coach staff, monitor food-handler certifications, and respond to call-outs by arranging shift coverage.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Troubleshoot and maintain café equipment, including espresso machines, grinders, and refrigeration. (Pro tip: Check the power supply first in our quirky older building!)
  • Inventory Management: Monitor supplies, communicate ordering needs, and keep the café stocked and prepared for service.
  • Cash Handling: Oversee cash levels, address till shortages, and resolve POS issues.
  • Communication: Collaborate with the owner, lead baristas, and head baker to address problems, special orders, and other operational needs.
  • Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve issues proactively, following through until they’re fully addressed.
What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a fast-paced café environment and takes pride in their work. Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Experience: At least 5 years as a barista, café employee, lead, supervisor, or manager.
  • Certification: Current Food Protection Manager / Food Manager in Charge certification (or proof of certification before starting).
  • Dependability: Someone responsible, proactive, and comfortable working independently.
  • Mechanical Mindset: Hands-on and comfortable troubleshooting and maintaining equipment.
  • Strong Communicator: Respectful and clear in giving direction, with a knack for resolving unexpected staffing issues.
  • Organized: Detail-oriented and skilled at following checklists and systems.
  • Food Safety Knowledge: Familiar with food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Operational Expertise: Confident handling cash, POS systems, and day-to-day café operations.
What This Position Does Not Include

This role does not involve regular employee scheduling or payroll responsibilities. However, you’ll be responsible for responding to employee call-outs and arranging shift coverage when needed.

Benefits and Perks

We value our team and are pleased to offer 1 week of paid vacation as part of this position after 12 months of employment.

Our Management Philosophy

At Rainshadow Café, we believe in a simple yet effective approach to management: - See it → Assess it → Address it → Communicate it → Follow up.

We’re looking for someone who takes ownership of the café while on duty. If something is broken, investigate it. If supplies are running low, flag them. If an employee calls out, find coverage. If the owner needs to know something, communicate it. Most importantly, follow through until the issue is resolved.

Ready to Join Us?

If you’re passionate about café management and ready to make a difference at Rainshadow Café, we’d love to hear from you! Apply today and take the next step in your career as part of our dedicated and hardworking team.
