Job description

Job Description
The Nurse Manager of Occupational Health is responsible for overseeing the hospital's Employee Health/Occupational Health program in direct collaboration with the Occupational Health and Wellness Medical Director. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a safe and healthy work environment for all hospital employees and employer clients. The Nurse Manager provides clinical oversight and leadership, manages staff, develops policies, and collaborates with leadership to regarding various work-related and employee issues, including workplace injuries and exposures.
Clinical Responsibilities and Oversight
  • Oversee and perform pre-employment health screenings, immunizations, urine drug screen collections, blood collection and mask fit testing
  • Manage work-related injuries and illness cases
  • Coordinate post-exposure evaluations (e.g., bloodborne pathogens)
  • Review and clear employees for return to work
  • Collaborate with Infection Prevention and Safety teams
  • Serve as the Medical Review Officer Assistant
  • For Nurse Practitioners - ability to receive certification as a certified Medical Examiner for Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
  • Clinical Duties will encompass- 30 -40% of the role with administrative duties approximately 60-70% of the role

Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • OSHA standards
    • CDC guidelines
    • NJ Department of Health requirements (if applicable)
    • Workers' Compensation regulations
    • Additional other standards and regulations as applicable
  • Maintain accurate employee health records
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance

Leadership & Management
  • Supervise Occupational Health and Wellness staff
  • Develop and implement department policies and procedures
  • Conduct performance evaluations
  • Manage departmental budget and resources
  • Work in conjunction with HR, Risk Management, and Nursing leadership

Workplace Safety
  • Track trends in employee injuries and exposures
  • Develop injury prevention programs
  • Participate in safety committee meetings
  • Lead education on infection control and workplace safety
  • Ability to provide risk communication, outcomes and feedback to employees and Departments

Wellness
  • Develop wellness initiatives for employees and employer clients
  • Serve as the point of contact and interface for external client wellness initiatives

Data Evaluation and Integration
  • Have general knowledge of data collection, review and analysis
  • Working knowledge of the use of Microsoft programs including, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
  • Master's degree or higher preferred (MSN, MHA, MPH) or DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice)

Licensure:
  • Active RN or NP license preferred in the State of New Jersey (or applicable state)

Certifications (Preferred):
  • COHN or COHN-S (Certified Occupational Health Nurse)
  • BLS certification

Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of nursing experience or nurse practitioner experience
  • 2-3 years in Occupational Health or Employee Health preferred
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience required
  • Hospital experience strongly preferred
