Job description

Full-Time, 40 Hours/Week

Summary:

The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the Nurse Manager in daily unit operations and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care delivery on a 24-hour basis. The Assistant Nurse Manager also facilitates the development and evaluation of nursing staff and provides nursing care using specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills.

Responsibilities:

1. Contributes as a key member of management by understanding business operations, financials, industry trends, and customer needs.

2. Develops and guides nursing staff by providing direction, coaching, training, and performance management to meet organizational goals.

3. Monitors and adheres to department budget to ensure effective expenditure control.

4. Assists Nurse Manager in maintaining operational efficiency of the patient care unit in collaboration with support services.

5. Promotes nursing philosophy and objectives by assisting the Nurse Manager in educational initiatives and research efforts.

6. Other duties as assigned.

Other information:

Technical Expertise

1. Experience in clinical pediatrics is required; clinical experience in assigned area is preferred
2. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships which enhance communication, promote conflict resolution and facilitate staff development.
3. Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required. Epic software or similar EMR software is required.

Education and Experience

1. Education: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing [BSN] is required; Master's degree [MSN] or another field (MBA, MPH, MHA, etc.) is preferred

2. Licensure: Currently licensed to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio is required.

3. Certification: Current Health Care Provider BLS training from the American Heart Association is required.

o If assigned to general care units, PEARS is required.

o If assigned to critical care units, PALS, ACLS, TNCC, and/or NRP is required.

o If assigned to ED, Surgical Services, Sedation Services, Transitional Care/Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, and Transport, within 1 year of date of hire PALS, ACLS, TNCC, and/or NRP is required.

o Relevant professional nursing certification, preferred.

4. Years of relevant experience: Minimum 4 years of nursing experience required.

5. Years of supervisory experience: 1 year in a leadership role or similar position preferred.
