Summary:
The Accounting Clerk is responsible for the daily positing of all incoming check and wire payments for the firm. This role ensures payments are applied correctly, records remain accurate, discrepancies are identified, and accounting and billing teams receive support as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
  • Process and post daily receipts received via check and wire transfer.
  • Reconcile client and operating American Express charges.
  • Process firm expenses.
  • Accurately apply payments to client accounts, invoices, and matters in accordance with firm policies.
  • Accurately verifies, enters and posts American Express client costs and firm operating expenses.
  • Maintain detailed records of receipts, American Express backup and firm invoices.
  • Collaborate with Billing Specialists, Accounts Receivable personnel, attorneys, and clients to resolve payment-related concerns.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client, financial, and firm information at all times.
  • Assist with special projects and additional accounting duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required, associate's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field a plus.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounts receivable or general accounting.
  • Prior experience in a law firm or legal environment a plus.
  • Familiarity with legal or professional software such as AIM and PerfectLaw preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (including VLOOKUP), Outlook, and Word.
