Job Description
The Corporate Strategy Manager, Automotive will partner with business unit and corporate leadership to define, communicate, and deploy global automotive business strategies. They will be responsible for leading the work to identify and diagnose strategy questions, develop hypotheses, generate insights, assess options, and make actionable recommendations for decision by senior leadership. This includes preparing executive-level materials for SLT and Board discussions on a regular cadence as well as off-cycle projects to advance the work and respond to ad hoc requests.
Bose Automotive is transforming its business model and technology portfolio to meet changing needs in the market. Reporting into the Corporate Strategy team but closely embedded in the business unit, the Strategy Manager will play an important role in shaping the direction of the business as well as ensuring cohesion with overall enterprise strategies and guiding internal and external investment decisions.
Responsibilities
Own and drive the BU strategy process and project work
  • Work with leadership to determine the most critical strategy questions and work to be done
  • Scope and map out the work, deliverables, and decision points; gain alignment
  • Lead the work from end-to-end with context-appropriate structure, objectivity, and analytical rigor
  • Push the thinking to consider the full range of strategic options and avoid cognitive bias traps
  • Partner with cross-functional BU leaders and corporate functions to ensure diverse perspective, build progressive buy-in, and consider downstream implications
  • Support the BU President and other leaders in creating presentation and communications materials, shaping a concise "strategy story" from complex data and conveying the most important messages
  • Lead strategy discussions and workshops with BU leadership and the corporate SLT as needed
  • Ensure the timely delivery of high-quality work to inform key decision moments and achieve important milestone goals
  • Translate strategic insights into clear business model implications and investment priorities

Represent the BU strategy view in enterprise-level planning
  • Own the connection between the automotive BU strategy and enterprise-level portfolio strategy, as well as synergies with the other BUs
  • Translate enterprise strategy and corporate goals into BU-level strategy implications; identify potential tension points and facilitate the right level of leadership collaboration to resolve
  • Proactively bring BU strategy topics to the broader corporate strategy team as appropriate

Develop broad subject matter expertise
  • Become a "go to" internal SME on strategic market, competitive, and technology trends, industry outlooks, competitive intelligence, and emerging opportunities
  • Maintain a global internal network and understanding of local market dynamics
  • Develop and maintain a clear view of the automotive software and platform ecosystem, including Tier-1s, semiconductor providers, and software frameworks to inform strategic positioning
  • Work with the market insights team to shape a data strategy, reporting tools, and insights that meet the needs of the business

Build strong cross-functional working relationships
  • Lead a cohesive and effective strategic planning and deployment process within the BU
  • Proactively solicit timely and appropriate input, challenge, and questions from leaders outside the BU to strengthen critical work
  • Partner with other groups including Corporate Development, Bose Research Labs, Corporate FP&A and others to ensure that the strategic interests of the BU are represented and considered in portfolio planning decisions, technology scouting, and investment evaluations

Create strategy best practices and knowledge-sharing
  • Consult with other BUs and strategy teams to provide objective perspectives and co-develop corporate-wide best practices and consistent methods
  • Help mentor junior staff and others
  • Lead by example

Qualifications
  • 7+ years' experience in strategy with direct accountability for leading strategic growth and transformation initiatives at a corporate or business unit level from formulation to deployment
  • The ideal candidate will have a mix of strategy consulting experience at a top-tier firm as well as one or more corporate roles in the automotive industry or similar B2B technology industry
  • Demonstrated command of the end-to-end strategy process with a track record of turning the theory of the case into action and influencing successful outcomes in complex business situations
  • Hands-on doer; must be comfortable authoring deliverables as well as organizing and leading collaboration with others; unafraid to make recommendations and debate and defend a position
  • Strong understanding of software business models, licensing, and technology platform architectures; while not a requirement, an undergraduate degree in a technical field is helpful
  • Fluency in financial statements and financial concepts with the ability to construct and analyze executive-level business models and investment cases
  • Professional demeanor and presence with high situational awareness, ability to build trust at all levels of the organization, and expert verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision and often against tight deadlines in a dynamic environment; able to juggle multiple projects at once and meet commitments
  • Motivated self-starter with a strong "owner mindset" and accountability
  • Prior experience in the automotive industry is a definite plus
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field, an MBA is strongly preferred
