Job description

Join Asplundh Engineering Services and begin your engineering journey with hands‑on design experience, structured training, and opportunities to grow your technical expertise in utility distribution systems.

As an Engineer I, you will support the design and development of electrical distribution projects for major utility clients. You’ll learn to translate field data and engineering principles into accurate, construction‑ready job plans that meet customer standards. With guidance from senior engineers, you will build a strong technical foundation and progress toward independent project ownership.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • ABET‑accredited degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering
  • EIT or Professional Engineer (PE) license a plus
  • Prior field experience preferredStrong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • CAD experience (AutoCAD or MicroStation) a plus
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Maintain a safe working environment during both office and field assignments
  • Gather and analyze field and technical data to support distribution design
  • Develop cost‑effective designs aligned with utility standards
  • Assist in permitting coordination with municipalities
  • Support construction teams to resolve design questions
  • Participate in field work as required to support design development
  • Communicate effectively with project teams
  • Manage time efficiently to meet project benchmarks
  • Other duties as assigned

FIELD WORK DISCLAIMER

Applicants must be comfortable performing field work as needed. Safety protocols—including PPE, hard hats, eye/ear protection, and proper footwear—are strictly enforced. Fieldwork may require walking, standing, and carrying equipment for extended periods.

Engineer I roles lead to advancement into Engineer II, Engineer III, or specialized engineering/leadership positions within AES.
