What you'll be doing

Join the Digital and CX Technology team as an Engineering Manager, API Development, where you'll lead a team of skilled API developers supporting CIBC's online and mobile banking platforms. Internally, this role operates as a Chapter Lead supporting API developers across multiple squads and crews.

This is a hands-on engineering leadership role for someone who enjoys building high-performing teams while staying close to architecture, solution design, delivery, and technical problem-solving. You will lead and develop engineers working across multiple cross-functional teams in the Digital Banking domain, helping them deliver scalable, secure API solutions that power seamless client experiences.

We're looking for a curious, people-focused, technically credible leader who can coach and develop talent, guide strong engineering practices, and contribute meaningfully to technical direction. In this role, you'll help shape CIBC's digital ecosystem by balancing people leadership, delivery leadership, and hands-on technical engagement.

  • You have a strong technical background. Your expertise includes Microservices architecture, Cloud-native design and integration patterns, and popular standards like OAuth. You have hands-on knowledge of Java/J2EE, Spring/SpringBoot, Web Services (SOAP, JSON, and RESTful), Event Messaging, and API Gateway.

  • You're familiar with Agile methodologies. Experience working in Agile environments is an asset and helps you thrive in collaborative, cross-functional teams.

  • You have cloud expertise. Familiarity with Cloud environments such as Kubernetes, Azure/OCP, or equivalent is considered an asset.

  • You're a strategic thinker. You align technical talent with organizational goals and drive execution on digital initiatives.

  • You have relevant education. You hold a degree or diploma in Computer Science or a related field.
