Job Description

Work as a member of the Amerex fire test department, under the direction of a fire test manager.  Work alongside design engineers to perform fire tests and product evaluation to the appropriate test specification or standard and ensure the test equipment is properly prepared.  Perform all duties necessary in cleaning, restoring and maintaining the fire test building and equipment.

What You'll Do:

  • Perform fire testing of Amerex fire equipment in compliance with the appropriate specification.
  • Conduct small scale fire testing for research and development.
  • Assist in or perform fabrication of special fire test equipment or components as directed by the product design engineer.
  • Train and direct any temporary personal assigned to aid in testing.
  • Insure a clean and safe environment for work and testing.
  • Record fire test results in an orderly manner when directed by the Design Engineer.
  • Use various test instruments and data acquisition devices
  • Must be able to work with other departments to accomplish work goals in a timely manner.
  • Make recommendations of improvements for all areas of responsibility when noticed.
  • Follow all company policies with special regard to safety, quality control, regulatory, and materials handling.
  • Fill out all company, departmental, and Quality paperwork as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
Qualifications

Who You Are:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Certified Fire Fighter Preferred.
  • Must be a “self-starter”, mature and able to work with little or no supervision.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience operating, maintaining, and utilizing hand tools such as drills, saws, and angle grinders to support fabrication of test fixtures and to support live fire testing. 
  • Hot Work/Welding experience preferred.
  • General knowledge of basic electrical circuits and standard laboratory techniques in the use of graduated cylinders and weight scales is a plus.
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time while wearing fire-fighting gear.
  • Ability to work in challenging environments that may include exposure to fire-fighting substances such as dry and wet chemicals, smoke, dust, grease, and grease-laden vapors. Conditions can involve soot and fluctuating temperatures, similar to outdoor environments. Requires adaptability to physically demanding and dirty work settings while maintaining safety and efficiency.
  • Ability to work various hours/shift as needed for testing.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. when required.
  • Regularly required to stand, climb, walk and reach with hands and arms.
  • Wear required safety equipment including respirator or breathing apparatus
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures
