What are the main challenges faced by Major Sales professionals when managing large accounts?

Major Sales professionals often encounter challenges such as navigating complex decision-making structures within large client organizations, aligning multiple stakeholders' interests, and maintaining long-term relationships while meeting aggressive sales targets. What are Major Sales?

Major sales refer to large, complex sales transactions that typically involve high-value products or services, multiple decision-makers, and longer sales cycles. These sales often require a strategic approach, including relationship-building, detailed presentations, and customized solutions to meet the client's needs. Professionals in major sales roles often work with key accounts or enterprise clients, focusing on closing deals that have a significant impact on their company's revenue and growth.

Can you make $500,000 a year in sales?

Major sales roles, such as high-level sales executives or top-performing sales managers, can potentially earn $500,000 or more annually through a combination of base salary, commissions, and bonuses. Achieving this level typically requires extensive experience, a strong sales record, and skills in negotiation and relationship management, often in industries like technology, pharmaceuticals, or enterprise services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Major Sales professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Major Sales professional, you need a deep understanding of sales strategies, client relationship management, and industry-specific knowledge, often supported by a degree in business or marketing. Familiarity with CRM software, sales analytics tools, and proposal management systems is essential for managing large accounts and complex sales cycles. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills help build trust and foster long-term client partnerships. These abilities are crucial for securing high-value deals, driving revenue growth, and maintaining a competitive edge in major sales environments.

Job description

About Vercel:
Vercel is the agentic infrastructure company. We free people and agents to ship what's next.
For more than a decade, Vercel has shaped how the web is built. As the team behind Next.js, v0, and AI SDK, we create products that help builders move from idea to production with speed, security, and exceptional developer experience.
Now, software is entering a new era, and the next generation of products will not just be used by people. They will be built, extended, and operated by agents.
We are building the platform for that future, trusted by companies like OpenAI, PayPal, Ramp, Supreme, and millions of developers worldwide. Whether you're building our products, supporting our customers, growing our community, or shaping our story, you'll help define what comes next.
About the Role:
Vercel's sales team is filled with hardworking, deeply technical people spanning a range of business functions to help create a new category. We are a fast-growing organization with a strong preference to grow team members and promote from within.
As a Majors Enterprise Sales Manager based in New York City, you will build and lead a New York-based Majors enterprise team within the AMER market. This is a top hiring priority for our sales organization and a foundational role in establishing sales leadership and sales culture in our new New York office. You'll be a hands-on leader and a talent magnet - someone who owns their own sourcing, builds a winning team from the ground up, and coaches AEs through complex, high-value enterprise deals.
If you're based within a pre-determined commuting distance of our New York City office, the role includes in-office anchor days on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.
What You Will Do:
  • Build and lead a New York-based Majors enterprise team within the AMER market
  • Recruit, hire, and train a winning team - owning your own sourcing and acting as a talent magnet
  • Provide support and guidance to direct reports by participating and leading in client and prospect meetings, and engaging other corporate resources as required
  • Coach direct reports on strategies to drive enterprise sales wins and navigate complex 6-7 figure deals across legal, procurement, and security
  • Deliver accurate reporting on sales activity and forecasting to senior sales management
  • Consistently monitor the sales activity of the team and track results
  • Actively lead and monitor demand generation and outbound activities
  • Lead initiatives to drive customer awareness and engagement, and develop and execute successful sales campaigns
  • Successfully manage significant client escalations and issues
  • Help establish sales leadership and sales culture in the new New York office
About You:
  • 3+ years of enterprise sales leadership experience
  • Heavy enterprise selling background, closing 6-7 figure deals
  • A proven recruiter who draws talent and builds their own team
  • Experience selling technical products to technical buyers and developers
  • Track record of success and quota attainment
  • Hands-on mentality - does more than delegate, and is willing to roll up their sleeves and put in the work
  • Able to drive process through legal, procurement, and security
  • Coachable, collaborative, and self-guided, with the ability to accelerate and take ownership in a rapidly growing environment
Bonus If You:
  • Have an enterprise pedigree from a high-growth, best-in-class SaaS organization
  • Have developer tools / web infrastructure sales experience
  • Have an established network of technology companies
  • Have deep roots in the local enterprise sales scene
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation package, including equity.
  • Inclusive Healthcare Package.
  • Learn and Grow - we provide mentorship and send you to events that help you build your network and skills.
  • Flexible Time Off.
  • We will provide you the gear you need to do your role, and a WFH budget for you to outfit your space as needed.

The NYC range for this role is $380,000-$430,000 OTE. Actual salary will be based on job-related skills, experience, and location. Compensation outside of NYC may be adjusted based on employee location. The total compensation package may include benefits, equity-based compensation, and eligibility for a company bonus or variable pay program depending on the role. Your recruiter can share more details during the hiring process.
