Kitchen Steward
Department: Food & Beverage
Reports to: Executive Chef
Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Kitchen Steward is responsible for delivering exceptional performance in their role, embodying Ranch core values, and upholding the standards set for Forbes Five-Star properties and members of Relais & Chateaux. This position ensures the cleanliness, organization, and maintenance of all kitchen areas, equipment, and utensils. By providing a clean and sanitary working environment, the Kitchen Steward contributes directly to the property's reputation for excellence.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen areas - including floors, walls, and equipment - in accordance with health and safety regulations and Forbes Five-Star standards.
  • Operates and maintains dishwashing equipment; ensures all dishes, glassware, and cutlery are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.
  • Properly stores and organizes all kitchen equipment, dishes, and supplies to ensure efficient workflow and prevent damage.
  • Assists with receiving and storing food and supply deliveries; ensures proper rotation and inventory management.
  • Collaborates with culinary team members to ensure all kitchen areas are ready for service and maintain cleanliness throughout shifts.
  • Reports any maintenance issues, equipment malfunctions, or safety hazards to the Executive Chef or Sous Chef promptly.
  • Supports Ranch standards and guest experience by ensuring a spotless and well-maintained kitchen, which contributes to the overall quality of food preparation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Chef or Sous Chef.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in a similar role in a luxury hotel or fine dining establishment preferred.
  • Knowledge of proper sanitation procedures and safe handling of chemicals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and follow instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds for extended periods.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as required by business needs.
  • Exposure to wet and hot environments, as well as cleaning chemicals.
