Job description

Summary/Objective:

A diesel technician is responsible for the repair and maintenance of diesel engines that power many types of equipment.

Essential Functions:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
  2. Repairs diesel engines and all the components that help to make the engines operate efficiently.
  3. Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.
  4. Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
  5. Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
  6. Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
  7. Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
  8. Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  9. Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options.
  10. Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
  11. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
  12. Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Position Type:

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Must be able to work 8 hours a day and will be given a regular day off.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Able to anticipate and understand customer’s needs and provide viable solutions.
  2. Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication expertise.
  3. Ability to work as a team and independently.
  4. Valid Driver’s License

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. HS diploma or GED equivalent.
  2. Degree in Automotive repair or
  3. Minimum of one to three years of progressive experience
  4. Willing to obtain on the job training and certifications as needed.
  5. Valid driver's license required.
