Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
The Student Technical Assistant provides technology and audiovisual support for Dodge College of Film and Media Arts.
This position assists faculty, staff, students, and guests with classroom technology, event support, audiovisual equipment setup, troubleshooting, and general technical operations. Student assistants help ensure that instructional spaces and events operate smoothly while delivering excellent customer service and technical support.
Responsibilities
  • Provide basic technical and audiovisual support for classrooms, meetings, events, and special programs.
  • Assist with the setup, operation, troubleshooting, and breakdown of audiovisual equipment and technology systems.
  • Support faculty, staff, students, and guests with technology-related questions and issues.
  • Monitor classroom and event technology to ensure proper functionality and operational readiness.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and maintain a professional demeanor in both routine and high-pressure situations.
  • Assist with equipment inventory, organization, documentation, and maintenance tasks.
  • Learn and follow departmental procedures and technology support protocols.
  • Communicate technical issues and service needs to professional staff in a timely manner.
  • Maintain assigned work schedules and demonstrate reliability and accountability.
  • Assist with special projects and departmental initiatives as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to learn new technologies, systems, and support procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Dependable, responsible, and committed to maintaining assigned work schedules.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional while assisting users in time-sensitive situations.

Desired Qualifications
  • Interest in audiovisual technology, media production, information technology, or technical operations.
  • Experience supporting customers, clients, students, or guests in a service-oriented environment.
  • Knowledge of audiovisual systems, signal flow, classroom technology, or event technology.
  • Familiarity with Crestron, Extron, DSP systems, audio/video equipment, or computer troubleshooting.
  • Experience setting up or operating audiovisual equipment for events, presentations, or productions.
  • Federal Work-Study eligibility for the 2026-2027 academic year is preferred but not required.

Training will be provided on departmental technologies, customer service expectations, audiovisual systems, troubleshooting procedures, and operational protocols.
