Maintenance Supervisor - Food Processing Facility
Berks Packing Co., Inc. - Reading, PA

Berks Packing Co., Inc., a leading manufacturer of hot dogs, deli meats, and specialty meat products, is seeking an experienced Maintenance Supervisor to lead our maintenance team and provide hands-on technical support in a fast-paced food processing environment.
This is not a desk-only position. The successful candidate must have strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills and be capable of personally repairing and maintaining a wide variety of equipment used throughout a food manufacturing facility.
Position Summary
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for supervising maintenance personnel while actively participating in the repair, installation, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of production and facility equipment. This individual will help ensure maximum equipment uptime, product quality, food safety, and employee safety.
*This is a safety sensitive position in which the employee is directly responsible for their own safety, as well as the safety of others*
Essential Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate maintenance technicians and outside contractors.
  • Troubleshoot and repair food processing and packaging equipment.
  • Perform hands-on maintenance of machinery, utilities, and facility systems.
  • Develop and manage preventive maintenance programs.
  • Prioritize work orders and emergency repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, OSHA, and company safety standards.
  • Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Work closely with Production, Quality Assurance, and Sanitation teams to maintain operational efficiency.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 5+years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably food processing.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Mechanical systems
    • Electrical controls
    • Motors and drives
    • Pumps and compressors
    • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
    • PLC troubleshooting
    • Refrigeration systems (a plus)
    • Packaging and processing equipment
  • Ability to read electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work in refrigerated, wet, and fast-paced production environments.
  • Must be willing to respond to maintenance emergencies as needed.
