POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Maintenance Technician will entail specialized maintenance knowledge in all or some of the following categories: rotating equipment, static equipment, boilers and thermal equipment, electrical and instrumentation. The Maintenance Technician is a critical role in delivering the overall Asset Management program and will be responsible for reliability and performance metrics. This level requires familiarity with equipment, procedures, products and the risk and safety issues associated with the job and environment.

SCOPE:

  • Reports to the Maintenance Manager
  • Work assignments are performed independently with minimal supervision including special tasks and assignments as needed
  • Takes lead role in documenting maintenance activities in CMMS and produces weekly activity report for planning
  • Focus on critical or complex maintenance tasks towards improved reliability
  • Takes initiative to get work done with little direction from supervisor

TEAM WORK & PROFESSIONALISM:

  • Engages professionally with contractors and ensures a high level of quality and accountability on services provided
  • Takes lead role in coordination and planning of maintenance activities including parts, resources, and tools to complete the job.
  • Acts as a technical resource to colleagues and as a mentor to less experienced employees.
  • Is professional and courteous in interactions with others an ambassador for Synagro’s brand and image

PROBLEM SOLVING & JUDGMENT:

  • Judgments and decision-making typically include determining tools, materials and equipment needed to accomplish the work
  • Ability to determine and justify use of contractors or vendors in obtaining services or materials towards overall Asset Management
  • Decisions affect the quality of work, the welfare of others, timeliness of the operation, degree of customer service and profitability of the operation.
  • Applies extensive knowledge and experience to solve complex problems

SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE:

  • Has solid working knowledge of many types of EHS processes, terminology and equipment
  • Can identify functional EHS applications across all areas of work
  • Leads problem solving for hazards and other non-conformances within assigned work area
  • Simplifies complex EHS issues
  • Provides guidance on safety and quality standards, reports incidents and assists with investigations

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • 5+ years’ experience in a maintenance technician role
  • Journeyman Millwright ticket required
  • Always demonstrate safe work behaviors and perform their job in a safe manner
  • Able to effectively and accurately complete work orders, material requests, incident reports, fit for duty and other documentation
  • Experience working with any of the following; thermal dryers, anaerobic digestors, centrifuges, or general wastewater processing equipment considered an asset
  • Disassemble, inspect, report and re-assemble various types of dewatering equipment, conveyors, pumps, and grinders.
  • Perform preventative, corrective and emergency mechanical maintenance on equipment
  • Maintain tools in good condition and proper placement after every job.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, hoists, and rigging procedures
  • Perform any general work or entry level operating assignments necessary to ensure the safe, clean, and efficient operation of the facility including sweeping, shoveling, or housekeeping activities.
  • Ascend and descend stairs and stationary vertical ladders as part of normal work activity
  • Ability to move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating and uneven surfaces utilizing ladders when necessary
  • Ability to lift up to 25 kg loads from ground periodically
  • Ability to access confined spaces general cleaning and inspections
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends shift work if required
