Maintenance Helper

Location: Richmond/Hopewell, VA Area
Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour

Job Summary

Our client is seeking a dependable and mechanically inclined Maintenance Helper to join their maintenance team in a manufacturing environment. This position will work under the direct supervision of the Plant Mechanic and Reliability & Maintenance Leader, assisting with preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with industrial maintenance, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, or pneumatic experience who are looking to grow their careers within a stable manufacturing operation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production and process equipment.
  • Support maintenance and repairs of pumps, mixers, conveyors, valves, motors, drives, and related equipment.
  • Assist in troubleshooting electrical systems, including motors, motor control centers (MCCs), VFDs, sensors, and instrumentation.
  • Safely work around low- and high-voltage electrical systems up to 480V.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and mechanical drawings.
  • Assist with maintenance and repair of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Support equipment installations, modifications, upgrades, and commissioning activities.
  • Work closely with maintenance, engineering, production, and EHS teams to maintain efficient plant operations.
  • Complete maintenance work orders and maintain accurate records within the CMMS system.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis efforts to reduce downtime and improve equipment reliability.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, including:
    • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
    • Arc Flash Safety
    • Hot Work Procedures
    • Confined Space Entry
    • Environmental and Safety Compliance Standards

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience working with tools and equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Ability to read and understand technical documentation and diagrams.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in an industrial environment.

Preferred

  • 1+ years of industrial maintenance, manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, or maintenance technician experience.
  • Experience with pumps, conveyors, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, or industrial machinery.
  • Experience reading electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs.
  • Prior CMMS experience.
  • Experience working in manufacturing, chemical processing, or industrial facilities.
  • Forklift certification is a plus.
