Job description

Job Title: Shop Helper

Job Description

The Shop Helper works in a busy fabrication shop, supporting daily operations by safely handling raw steel and fabricated parts, keeping materials flowing between workstations, and maintaining a clean and organized work area. This role ensures that drill and saw operators, fitters, welders, and painters always have the materials they need, helping the shop operate efficiently and on schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload trucks with raw steel and fabricated parts in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Check steel and finished products in and out of the shop, ensuring accuracy of materials on trucks and in storage areas.
  • Move steel and other materials from station to station and bay to bay so drill and saw operators, fitters and welders, and painters can remain at their workstations.
  • Use material handling equipment, such as pallet jacks and forklifts, to transport steel and other materials around the plant.
  • Assist with general labor tasks, including unloading steel, staging materials, and organizing work areas.
  • Sweep up metal shavings and debris to keep the fabrication shop and workstations clean and safe.
  • Help grind parts down as needed so they are ready for further work and fabrication processes.
  • Support inventory control by checking materials in and out and helping maintain accurate counts of steel and finished products.
  • Follow all safety procedures and use hand and power tools correctly while performing daily tasks.
Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbiana, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
