Job description

Summary: Management leadership for the Maintenance-Engineering Department that is responsible for the preventative maintenance, reliability and optimization of the process equipment, and capital projects.
Essential Functions of the Job:
  • Provide maintenance and engineering support for all departments to optimize performance, increase production efficiency, improve product quality, improve environmental compliance margins, and increase process and equipment reliability.
  • Lead by example and encourage employees' adherence to the mill's general, safety and environmental policies.
  • Develops and manages the maintenance and engineering teams to maximize operational performance and employee satisfaction.
  • Drives results of established metrics, KPI's and annual department goals to ensure targets are established and accomplished.
  • Manages capital, major repair and maintenance budgets, tracks expenditures and progress to maximum financial efficiency.
  • Manage the predictive and preventative maintenance program.
  • Promote active participation and use of the Root Cause Analysis program. Manages design and implementation of solutions.
  • Support in troubleshooting acute and chronic process issues.
  • Manages the development of designs and engineering for complex projects.
  • Leads improvement projects and/or forms project teams as needed depending on the project scope.
  • Executes major repairs and upgrades for mill infrastructure, air, water, gas, chemical and fire systems.
  • Coordinate efforts with vendors to implement new technologies, reliability improvements, production optimization and equipment operation.
  • Manages the development of new procedures to facilitate proper process or equipment operation after modification or upgrades.
  • Use various software programs and production databases to document and determine effective process operation and timing of equipment maintenance/upgrades.
  • Coordinates with contracted engineers and construction supervisors and crews.
  • Manages the mill drawing system and the addition of assets in Maximo
  • Manages the Safe Work Plan program and provides updates/training to the program on an annual basis as needed.
  • Support the call team process and mentor the members
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position supervises exempt and non-exempt support staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications:
  • Strong heavy manufacturing experience required.
  • 10 plus years or more paper mill experience a plus
  • Must have previous management experience
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience

Other skills:
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite and the ability to learn new applications.
  • Strong understanding of computerized maintenance management systems such as Maximo.
  • Well-developed people practice, including strong interpersonal skills, the ability to build lasting relationships, provide recognition and demonstrate integrity and high personal standards.
  • Have strong coaching skills to teach preventative and predictive maintenance, project planning, maintenance scheduling, and root cause analysis.
  • Competencies: detail orientated, managerial courage, problem solving and organizational skills
