Job description

DESCRIPTION
Gaines and Company is seeking a skilled and dependable Mainline Excavator Utility Operator to join our underground utility teams. This is a critical role that requires precision, a high regard for safety, and deep technical knowledge of heavy infrastructure.
As a Mainline Operator, you won't just be moving dirt; you will be responsible for the expert installation of water, sewer, and storm drain systems at varying depths. We are looking for a veteran operator who can lead by example, maintain equipment integrity, and ensure the job is done right the first time.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Expert Operation: Proficiently operate large excavators to dig trenches and install mainline water, sewer, and storm drain pipes at all required depths.
  • Precision Installation: Ensure all pipes are laid to grade and meet project specifications.
  • Leadership: Step up to oversee the crew and direct site activities when the foreman is unavailable or as project needs dictate.
  • Safety & Maintenance: Conduct daily equipment inspections and operate machinery in strict accordance with OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Communication: Maintain clear and professional communication with site supervisors, crew members, and project managers.
  • Adaptability: Work effectively in all weather conditions and environments typical of heavy civil construction.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of proven experience specifically in mainline utility excavation.
  • Technical Skill: Deep familiarity with underground utility installation (Water, Sewer, and Storm Drain).
  • Travel: Ability to travel to various job sites as required by the project schedule.
  • Driving Record: Must possess a clean driving record and have reliable transportation to and from sites.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to work in diverse outdoor conditions and handle the physical demands of a high-production construction site.
